C-Cores come in 32 sizes ranging from 5 VA to 5 kVA.

Press Release Summary:

Made from M5 silicon steel, C-Cores are suitable for single-phase transformers with single coils, both single loop and double loop, as well as double coil and double loop. They can be bobbin-wound and require no assembly or stacking of laminations. Rectangular tubes of phenolic or laminated paper required for winding cores are available for all sizes.

Introducing New Stocking Program of Standard "C-cores" for Transformers and Inductors

Responding to increased market interest in C- Cores, Alpha-Core, Inc. Bridgeport, CT introduces the industry's first complete stocking program of a new broad range of standard design C-Cores made from M5 silicon steel. 32 standard core sizes for power ratings from 5VA to 5 KVA (60 Hz, single loop) are in stock, ranging in weight from 0.18 Lb to 32 Lb. Both the transformer manufacturer and his customer will benefit from Alpha-Core's new stocking program as immediate delivery of engineering samples will shorten end-customer's product development cycle by a minimum of 8-10 weeks. C-Cores are suitable for single phase transformers with single coils, both single loop and double loop, as well as double coil and double loop. There are three major reasons for the growing interest in cut cores or C-Cores. One reason is that the electrical performance is better than conventional stacked lamination type transformer, more close to that of the toroidal core transformer. The other is that the transformer cores can be bobbin-wound, a method that is many times faster than winding a toroidal core. The faster winding speed is especially important for high voltage transformers with thousands of turns of copper magnet wire. The third advantage is that there is no assembly or stacking of laminations used in the conventional E/I core transformers.

Rectangular tubes of phenolic or laminated paper required for winding the cores are available for all sizes. Zinc alloy cast clamping frames are also in stock for many sizes. The program was developed with sufficient flexibility to cover a wide range of new designs as well as to replace custom C-cores and E/I lamination based designs. The new stocking program is part of Alpha-Core's Supermarket and the C-cores can be ordered on-line by visiting www.alphacore.com. List prices are as follows: $1.25 for 2.4VA, $11.01 for 360VA and $94.03 for 4700VA power ratings for 60Hz operation.

Alpha-Core continues to offer custom cores of thin gauge silicon steel for both single- and three- phase transformers of any configuration. Special size C-cores as well as E-cores for 3-phase applications are produced from 0.011" as well as thin gauge silicon steels for 400Hz and higher frequencies.

Alpha-Core Inc. was established in 1982 making toroidal cores of silicon steel for the emerging North American toroidal transformer industry. Today, the company also manufactures flat magnet wire; the Laminax family of insulated copper foils for EMI/RFI shielding, Litz wire, and is also the sole North American agent for Gurandi Toroidal Winding Machines.
