Astec Power's Newest Bus Converters Pack 300W of Power in Quarter-Brick

With 48V Input, ALQ25 Modules Deliver up to 25A at 12V with 96 % Efficiency

CARLSBAD, Calif. - September 23, 2003 - Astec Power, a leading merchant supplier of power conversion solutions, has announced the availability of their new ALQ25B50 bus converter series for new intermediate bus applications. Packaged in an open-frame, industry-standard quarter-brick, these bus converters are capable of delivering up to 300W of output power. The new devices are among the most cost-effective front-end conversion schemes for driving multiple point-of-load (POL) converter applications.

With patented topology, the ALQ25B50 bus converters achieve up to 96 percent efficiency. They accept an input range of 42V to 53V (48V nominal) and deliver a stepped-down output voltage of 12V (with ±10% line regulation) for up to 25A. This open loop DC conversion scheme allows the converters to exhibit purely resistive output characteristics which eases system stability management with multiple point of loads employed in a distributed power architecture.

The new ALQ25B50 modules come with rich feature sets including input over voltage protection and under voltage lockout with hysteresis to prevent false triggering at low input voltages as well as output over current and over temperature protection. The devices also offer a choice of either positive or negative logic control for the remote on/off pin. As an added convenience, designers can select models with pin lengths of either 3.7mm or 5mm.

Designed to operate in temperatures from -40ºC to 85ºC, the devices meet basic insulation requirements as well as industry standards for safety and performance. The robust modules have a calculated Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of more than one million hours.

Offered in four standard configurations based on pin length and enable function, the ALQ25B50 models are priced competitively at less than $48.00 in OEM quantities. Samples are available now with production release slated for October 2003. For more information, contact an Astec power representative in your area.
