Vicor Introduces MIL-COTS High-Voltage Bus Converter for Aerospace and Defense Applications

Andover, MA, November 17, 2008...VoI Chip Corporation, a subsidiary of Vicor Corporation (NASDAQ: VICR) announced the availability of a MIL-COTS BCM(TM) bus converter. This high-efficiency (more than 95 percent), Sine Amplitude Converter (SAC) (TM) operates from MIL-STD-704E/F 270 Vdc and delivers an isolated 30.0 - 41.3 Vdc. This voltage is suitable as an input to the MIL-COTS PRM(TM) regulator and VTM(TM) current multiplier, and is ideal for aircraft distributed power applications.

The MIL-COTS BCM achieves a power density of 829 Watts per cubic inch in a VoI Chip package compatible with standard pick-and-place and surface mount assembly processes. The VoI Chip package provides flexible thermal management through its low junction-to-case and junction-to-board thermal resistance. Owing to its high conversion efficiency and safe operating temperature range, the BCM may not require a discrete heat sink in typical applications. Low junction-to-case and junction-to-lead thermal impedances assure low junction temperatures and long life in the harshest environments.

"While the new MIL-COTS High-Voltage Bus Converter Module is primarily suited for aerospace applications requiring a 270 Vdc nominal input," says Keith Nardone, Director of Business Development for Aerospace and Defense, "this product can be used in a wide variety of applications that require high efficiency, fast transient response, a low profile, and overall design flexibility."

There are two models available, the VMB0004MFJ (J-lead version) and VMB0004MFT (through-hole version). The MIL-COTS High-Voltage Bus Converter Module is priced as low as $105.75 each in OEM quantities and is available in standard leadtime.
