National Semiconductor's Quad LVDS Buffer-Repeaters Feature Industry's Best Jitter Performance and ESD Protection



2.0 Gbps buffer-repeaters feature lowest jitter transfer, on-chip termination and 15 kV of ESD Protection

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - October 9, 2006 - National Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:NSM), a leading supplier of high-performance analog signal-path products, today introduced two new, low-jitter, signal-conditioning buffer-repeaters to its industry-leading portfolio of LVDS products.

National's DS15BR400 and DS15BR401 four-channel LVDS buffer-repeaters provide all the features necessary for designing mainstream LVDS multi-cards or multi-boxes. The devices operate from zero to 2.0 Gbps and feature 14 picoseconds of total jitter at 1.5 Gbps data rates. In addition, the industry's highest 15 kV of ESD protection ensures maximum protection for FPGAs, ASICs and other onboard components. The DS15BR400 and DS15BR401 include configurable pre-emphasis and are well-suited for delivering clean LVDS signals across cables and backplanes found in a wide variety of electronic systems, including telecom, datacom, industrial, medical, automotive and office imaging applications.

Technical Features of the DS15BR400 and DS15BR401 Buffer-Repeaters
Offered in both 32-pin LLP® and 48-pin TQFP packages, the DS15BR400 drives up to four LVDS clock and/or data channels over common backplanes or cable configurations. The wide differential input range easily interfaces to LVDS, low voltage positive emitter-coupled logic (LVPECL), or current-mode logic (CML) input levels and the output levels are fully LVDS compliant. Configurable output pre-emphasis allows the designer to "overdrive" the outputs to compensate for a lossy interconnect. In power-sensitive applications, the power-down per channel mode is useful in minimizing power consumption when all four channels of a single device are not active, as in redundancy applications.

The DS15BR400 has input and output terminations integrated to save board space and maximize signal conditioning. The DS15BR401 has the same features and packaging options as the DS15BR400, but it does not include the integrated receiver termination, which allows it to be used as a multi-drop receiver.
