Smart Budgeting Helps Optimize Scarce Tax Dollars

SAP Introduces Solution for Public Budget Formulation

WASHINGTON, June 17 /-- In these uncertain economic times governments are under increased budgetary pressures. Budget officers are challenged to prepare their organizations' budgets in an environment of diminishing tax revenues and limited internal resources. To address these issues, SAP AG (NYSE:SAP) today announced a new software solution for public budget formulation developed specifically for the U.S. and the Canadian market. Designed by former public sector budget officers, this comprehensive budgeting solution supports governmental budgeting processes.

The new solution from SAP addresses the unique budgetary needs and processes of federal, state and local government and education organizations, including incremental, zero-based and performance-based budgeting. In addition, the solution processes and reports against operating, capital, grants and other budget types. Additionally, the solution provides robust text handling and push-button budget book publishing capabilities. The flexible configuration of the SAP(R) solution allows public agencies to make informed decisions with real-time insight, automated processes, improved transparency and optimization of scarce resources.

Based on the SAP NetWeaver(R) technology platform, this Web-based solution provides the link between typically disparate systems and integrates with both SAP and non-SAP software. In doing so, the solution for public budget formulation helps organizations achieve more efficient budgets with greatly reduced potential for errors, performance plans and other information critical to supporting the budget decision-making process. The solution begins the budgeting process through a single point of entry for all budget request data, including related text and justification information. From there, budgeting staff move through the budget reviews, analysis and reporting, adoption and budget book publishing processes in one complete end-to-end solution. One point of entry along a complete, streamlined process increases accuracy, efficiency, effectiveness and transparency, and provides decision-makers with the tools to optimize the allocation of scarce budgetary resources.

The City of San Diego and South Florida Water Management District are currently implementing the SAP solution for public budget formulation.

The solution is available for North American customers and is applicable to federal, state, provincial and local government agencies and educational institutions. For more information, please see the solution brief and white paper available at: http://www.sap.com/industries/publicsector/public.
