New Brushless Servos Offer Rapid Acceleration & Deceleration with Maximum Reliability in Radiation-Intensive Environments
Reliable operation in environments where standard motors just don't cut it
ROHNERT PARK, CA -- Empire Magnetics introduces RH Series radiation-hardened brushless servo motors. These motors are designed to accommodate rapid acceleration and deceleration, and reliable operation, in radiation-intensive applications such as fuel processing, nuclear waste storage, processing decommissioned weapons for disposal, and pebble reactors, among others.
High energy, gamma radiation particles will attack non-metallic materials in a motor, and lubricants, varnish, lamination bonding, and cable insulation will all deteriorate over time and finally crumble. These motors are constructed with the best available radiation-resistant materials to assure the longest possible service life in a radiation environment.
RH series servo motors are available in four standard frame sizes, with custom sizes available upon request. Across standard frame sizes, these motors are available with continuous output torque ranging from 15 to 400 inch lb. (1.7 - 46 Nm) or momentary peak torque from 30 to 1000 inch lb. (3.4 - 113 Nm). They are available with rotor inertia from 0.17 to 36.7 oz-in², and continuous output power of 700 to 7800 watts.
RH series brushless servo motors are rated for a total accumulated dose of 2x108 rads as standard, with ratings to 1x109 rads available on a custom basis. Additional custom radiation-hardened solutions are available including AC induction motors, assemblies and complete RH motion control systems.
Empire Magnetics is a leading supplier of specialty motor products, motion control systems and support services to a variety of North American and international manufacturers.
