Brushless Linear Motors come in cog-free and iron-core models.

Press Release Summary:

Operating at speeds up to 240 ips, cog-free BLS Series is intended for long-stroke, high-speed, closed-loop applications. Iron-core BLD Series, with forces of more than 500 lb continuous, is designed for long-stroke, high-force, closed-loop applications. Both are available with motor coils featuring Hall-effect assemblies for trapezoidal commutation, or without Hall effects if used with linear encoder and commutation is achieved through software.

Brushless Linear Motors

With the recent acquisition of the Baldor linear motion product line, H2W Technologies now manufactures brushless linear motors in its Santa Clarita, California facility.  With extensive experience in designing and building custom linear motion products, now matched with the equipment and tooling necessary to produce both cog-free and iron-core brushless linear motors, H2W is capable of manufacturing the complete line of brushless linear motors found in the Baldor catalog.  Custom stroke and force configurations are available.

Cog-free brushless linear motors (BLS series) are ideal for long stroke, high speed, closed-loop applications.  With a lower moving mass, they can operate at speeds up to 240 ips [6 m/s, and can be precisely controlled when coupled with a linear encoder.  There is no cogging present in this type of brushless linear motor, therefore it is ideal for applications requiring smooth motion at both slow and fast speeds.  If required, H2W can provide the motor coils with hall effect assemblies for trapezoidal commutation, or without hall effects if used in conjunction with a linear encoder and commutation is achieved through software.  Typically, the cog-free brushless assembly uses a shorter moving coil assembly, paired with a long permanent magnetic field assembly, however if cable management is an issue H2W can provide a longer coil assembly with a shorter moving permanent magnetic field assembly.

Typical applications for the cog-free brushless motors are vision inspection equipment, pick and place machines, clean room equipment, small milling machines, coordinate measuring machines, as well as laser and water-jet cutters.

The iron-core brushless linear motors (BLD series) are ideal for long stroke, high force, closed-loop applications.  Forces available through iron-core motors, larger than 500 lbs [2 kN continuous, are much greater than those available in cog-free brushless linear motors, and thus are ideal for moving larger loads requiring higher acceleration, up to 9 G’s.  If required, H2W can provide the motor coils with hall effect assemblies for trapezoidal commutation, or without hall effects if used in conjunction with a linear encoder and commutation is achieved through software.

Typical applications for the iron-core brushless motors are vision inspection equipment, pick and place machines, clean room equipment, and large mass parts transfer equipment.
