Hurst Manufacturing's New NT Dynamo(R) Brushless DC Motor Line Packs a Dynamite Punch in a Small Package

Powerful compact motors ideal for applications demanding integrated variable speed control

Princeton, IN, April 24, 2002. For applications where stepper, brushed and induction motors just aren't right for the job, Hurst Manufacturing's new line of NT Dynamo® brushless DC motors offers a powerful step up. The compact NT Dynamo motors are well suited for applications that demand integrated variable speed control, precision performance with lower torque ripple, or higher power in a small package.

"This really is an exciting innovation in small DC brushless motors. More than 100 years of Emerson Electric motor expertise went into the design of the NT Dynamo line," said Ed Wagner, Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, Hurst Manufacturing. "And with four sizes available, the NT Dynamo line is a solution for many applications requiring 5-70 oz-in of continuous torque, such as medical equipment, office machines, blowers, liquid and ticket dispensers and movement simulators."

NT Dynamo is a modular type high volume, high quality brushless dc motor with an integrated digital drive designed for continuous duty (operating life is 20K+ hours). NT Dynamo also has the flexibility of three different levels of drive performance, an optical encoder, computer communications and NEMA 23 mounting.

The sub-fractional servomotors integrate an internal programmable electronic control module and a brushless motor into a single, compact unit. The control module can be configured to operate in speed, voltage and torque modes, controlled either by computer, PLC or by standard operator controls. The NT Dynamo handles input voltage ranges of 10-48 (not just 24 or 36Vdc), with output speed ranges of 1,000-6,000 rpm. The NEMA 23 mounting face option makes it possible to retrofit the NT Dynamo for use with standard gearheads.

Designed for high reliability, NT Dynamo boasts such features as a class B insulation system, ring magnets instead of arcs, a bearing system and many more features including:

- Reliable brushless performance

- 1.73" diameter in size

- Smooth precision motion

- Ring type neodymium magnets

- Integral electronic control

- 2 or 4 quadrant operation

- Start/stop, fwd/rev by contact closure

- PWM or analog signal follower

- Encoder feedback options

Over 6,000 different NT Dynamo models can be designed online by visiting the Hurst Manufacturing Web site at www.hurstmfg.com. The site's brushless DC motor configurator walks a customer through an easy six-step selection process that includes "yes" or "no" answers and pull down menus of answer options to create a customer-specific motor and control. Once a motor is configured, the customer instantly has access to a part number, dimensional diagrams and technical specifications. In order to request a quote or order the prototype online, customers must first register for a free MyHurst.com account. MyHurst.com enables the customer to not only get a price quote and place an order, but also to track orders, all without searching through confusing catalogs and making repeat calls to engineers.

Once an order has been placed online using the configurator, the specifications are sent immediately to the factory floor where the prototypes are assembled on the spot. This unique process enables prototypes to be shipped rapidly and in many cases within 48 business hours or less, complete with software, cables and a connection kit that enables engineers to fine-tune motor performance to the application right on their lap top computers.

Established in 1950, Hurst Manufacturing is a part of Emerson Motor Company based in St. Louis, MO (emersonmotors.com).
