Brushing/Polishing Machine handles ultra-hard materials.

Press Release Summary:

BP-Smart provides steady deburring, edge preparation, and polishing of hard materials such as CBN, PCD, ruby, sapphire, and industrial ceramics. It can be operated with abrasive-loaded nylon brushes for simple shapes and/or with natural bristles with diamond paste for complicated shapes. Flat components are brushed on planetary polishing table. Rotary motions of polishing table, workpiece holders, and brush produce equal controlled radius on edges of component.

Gerber Brushing/Polishing for Ultra-Hard Materials

MIAMISBURG, OH - United Grinding Technologies, Inc. (UGT) announces the availability of the BP-Smart, a new brushing/polishing machine from Gerber. According to Dave Barber, marketing manager, Gerber has long been regarded a master in generating and polishing radii, chamfers and recesses on workpieces produced in ultra-hard materials. "Gerber is commonly associated with supplying machines for shaping and polishing ruby, sapphire and other watch jewels," Barber says, "but perhaps less known is the fact that the company has also developed very special machine models for manufacturers of indexable cutting tool inserts." The BP-Smart brushing/polishing machine has been developed for steady deburring, edge preparation and polishing of particularly hard materials like CBN, PCD, ruby, sapphire and industrial ceramics. The machine has a very smnall footprint but is highly rigid for accurate, repeatable performance. Operating with technical brushes in a form of controlled erosion process, the BP-Smart machine can be operated with abrasive-loaded nylon brushes for simple shapes and/or with natural bristles with a special easy-to-clean diamond paste for parts with more complicated shapes or with higher requirements on the quality of the surface polishing. The first option is usually used for basic inserts, and the second for sophisticated inserts that later require coating or have chip-breaker grooves. Flat components are brushed on a planetary polishing table. The rotary motions of the polishing table, workpiece holders and brush produce an equal controlled radius on the edges of the component. The entire top surfaces of the parts that are contacted by the brush are polished at the same time. Founded in 1955 in Lyss, Switzerland, Rene Gerber AG has become one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-precision brushing/polishing machines for ultra-hard materials, including indexable cutting tool inserts of CBN, CPD, and other very hard materials. Gerber machinies are renowned for their extraordinary precision, state of the art shaping and polishing technology and exceptional durability. All Gerber brushing/polishing machines are supported by an expert team of highly skilled specialists and technicians drawing on a large number of machine installations, as well as UGT's worldwide support and service network.
