'Superbrush' Introduced by Pittman to Extend Service Life of Brush-Commutated DC Motors

HARLEYSVILLE, PA, September 3, 2002 - The "SuperBrush" for Pittman LO-COG® brush-commutated DC motors has been introduced as an option to help delay the detrimental effects of ongoing brush wear and promote extended service life of motors.

These longer copper graphite (automotive-grade) "SuperBrushes" contain 60% more brush material than their standard counterparts. In addition to being longer, the "SuperBrush" has a greater contact area with the commutator. This decreases current density and reduces brush wear.

"SuperBrushes" are now available as an option in Pittman LO-COG Series 8000 and Series 9000 brush-commutated DC motors. The "SuperBrushes" (two in each motor) are housed in unique cartridge brush assemblies, which utilize torsion springs to ensure even brush force. These snap-together assemblies permit the "SuperBrushes" to travel in a true linear motion and provide an ideal brush pressure to withstand the detrimental effects of mechanical wear.

LO-COG brush-commutated DC motors from Pittman can deliver performance, reliability, and long service life in a relatively small package for a wide range of power applications, including technology for computer peripherals, imaging, and clinical diagnostic devices. Depending on the model, these brush motors can achieve speeds up to 10,650 RPM and peak torques up to 410 oz-in.

Users are assured that every Pittman motor is subjected to automated performance testing prior to shipment.
