Vyyo Debuts XMTS-TE Broadband Hub to Expand Availability of T1 Services

NORCROSS, Ga., May 3 -- Vyyo (NASDAQ:VYYO), a supplier of broadband access equipment for cable system operators, today announced a new version of its XMTS broadband hub that will dramatically expand the ability of cable operators to deliver T1 services via hybrid fiber- coaxial (HFC) plant.

In its booth (#4679) at the NCTA Cable Show at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center May 7-9 in Las Vegas, Vyyo is unveiling the XMTS-TE, which features fully-integrated support for IP-based transport and eliminates the need for operators to deploy TDM/SONET backbones for business services. Vyyo continues to offer and deploy its original SONET-based XMTS systems as well.

"The near-ubiquitous delivery of telecom-quality T1 services will be a key to cable's ability to succeed in what has been estimated as a $130 billion business services market," said Wayne Davis, CEO of Vyyo. "The XMTS-TE enables us for the first time to give operators the tools they need to sell low-jitter, low-latency T1 services across their HFC footprint."

The Vyyo T1 solution scales in a manner that mirrors the simplicity and cost effectiveness of cable's proven HSD deployment model: The XMTS-TE is a headend-based T1 CMTS that communicates with T1 modems at the business customer's premise, allowing operators to tap into the long-term, high-ARPU potential of business services.

Used in conjunction with the Vyyo V510 TDM/Ethernet Gateway, the XMTS-TE uses innovative technology to encapsulate the T1 circuits into Ethernet frames, allowing for transport over metro or regional Ethernet networks. The V510 then translates the Ethernet-encapsulated T1 streams back into native TDM format for connection to legacy networks.

For transmission over the HFC network, the XMTS system uses advanced MAC- layer technology to maximize spectral density while minimizing round-trip delay. Vyyo's MAC algorithms provide near real time allocation for T1 service flows while minimizing overhead. Over the metro or regional Ethernet backbone, the XMTS system adapts existing standards to provide best-in-class latency, which is critical for cellular backhaul and other voice applications.

About Vyyo Inc.

Cable operators get more from their networks with Vyyo. Vyyo products designed for use by cable television operators include spectrum overlay solutions designed to expand cable operators' typical HFC (hybrid-fiber coax) network capacity in the "last mile" and business services solutions that can help operators meet the needs of small/medium-sized enterprises using existing cable plant. Spectrum overlay increases bandwidth by up to 2x in the downstream and 4x or more in the upstream, addressing requirements for advanced residential and business services.
