Broadband Comes to Mississippi: Through Wal-Mart, Hughes Brings High-Speed Internet to Rural Communities

Local Wal-Mart to Carry HughesNet Broadband Services

GERMANTOWN, Md., Oct. 10 / / - Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) today announced that consumers in 40 Mississippi cities will be able to purchase HughesNet(R), the leading satellite broadband Internet access service at their local Wal-Mart store. Wal-Mart is selling HughesNet in Mississippi as part of its agreement to sell the service in 2,800 stores across the continental U.S., including locations throughout most of rural America where terrestrial broadband services, such as cable and DSL, are often not available.

"In Mississippi, cable and DSL isn't available to every household," said Mike Cook, senior vice president, North America Division, Hughes. "But broadband is no longer a luxury or an urban service. People everywhere rely on it for communication, work, and entertainment. We're thrilled to be working with Wal-Mart to help make broadband a reality for the millions of Americans who have been left behind by the local phone and cable companies."

Without satellite broadband, millions of people outside the reach of cable and DSL are left with dial-up and its slow speeds. With HughesNet, consumers in Mississippi only need a view of the southern sky to have access to high- speed Internet.

Wal-Mart will be offering HughesNet service plans with download speeds of up to 1.5Mbps and pricing starting as low as $59.99. Customers can find HughesNet services available for purchase in the Wal-Mart Connect Center in the Electronics department. Wal-Mart customers can take home the HughesNet literature and contact the Wal-Mart Call Center to be connected with a Hughes installation specialist.

Every Wal-Mart customer who purchases the HughesNet service will receive an "ExpressPay" card for $100.00 to buy anything at Wal-Mart from groceries, toys, or automotive services, at the customer's discretion.

With more than 350,000 subscribers, the HughesNet service is the leading, two-way broadband satellite Internet service in the United States. For more information about HughesNet services, please visit www.hughesnet.com or call 1-866-667-5537.
