Bray S40 High Performance Butterfly Valves Pass Fire Test with Zero Leakage

Houston, TX, February 1, 2007-Bray Controls announces that its Bray/McCannalok Series 40 High Performance Butterfly Valves have passed the new BS EN ISO 10497:2004 Second Edition fire test with zero leakage, both through-seat and externally. This test, which is more demanding than all previous fire safe tests, was performed by Lloyd's Register. Three-inch and eight-inch Class 150 Series 41 lug-style butterfly valves with a RPTFE/Silicon energized seat and Inconel 718 secondary seat were used in the test. The body material was nickel aluminum bronze and the stem packing was flexible graphite. In normal service, the fire safe seat assembly contacts the disc with both the resilient seat material and metal seat. During and after a fire, when the resilient material has been partially or completely destroyed, the metal seat provides a positive seal by remaining in constant contact with the disc in either direction of line media flow.

The S41 is part of Bray's line of Series 40 high performance butterfly valves designed for high pressure, high and low temperature applications. This line offers bi-directional, bubble-tight shut off with Class 150, 300 or 600 pressure ratings in wafer and lug style bodies sized from 2 1/2" ¬ 54". Recognized as one of the leading butterfly valves in the industry with over 30 years of successful service, the Series 40 features a unique, patented design that received Chemical Processing's Vaaler Award for Best Product Design shortly after it was introduced. The Series 40 also features blow-out proof stem protection and a double offset stem/disc design that reduces seat wear, extends service life and reduces torque. Available in fire safe and non fire safe versions, the line comes in a variety of materials to meet specific application requirements within a temperature range of -20°F to +500°F.

Bray Series 40 Valves are significantly smaller and lighter in weight than comparable gate, globe, diaphragm or plug valves, therefore offering superior performance and reduced installation/maintenance time and cost. Series 40 Valves can be easily automated with Bray's outstanding electric and pneumatic actuators and accessories. The inherent strengths of butterfly valves plus the precision control of Bray's advanced automation combine to produce an excellent control valve package.

Series 40 Valves also feature an internal travel stop to prevent over travel of the disc, easily adjustable stem packing, a stem seal system that provides constant compression for a positive seal around the stem, and top and bottom stainless-steel bearings that securely support the stem.
