Brasil Telecom GlobeNet Selects Nokia Siemens Networks for Optical Backbone Network Expansion in North America

Brasil Telecom GlobeNet will strengthen their North American product strategy, expanding its solutions capacity and strengthening security with an optical platform from Nokia Siemens Networks.

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 26 - The deployment of the flexible, high-capacity SURPASS hiT 7300 Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) platform is a first in North America for Nokia Siemens Networks. Other components of the turnkey solution are Nokia Siemens Networks' Telecommunications Network Management System and a services package including network design, commissioning, installation as well as training and extended care.

The optical platform provides Brasil Telecom GlobeNet with a scalable transport backbone that securely and cost-effectively accommodates the high traffic volumes required by its Tier-1 carrier customers, and supports leading-edge Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) technology.

"After an extensive evaluation process, it was clear that Nokia Siemens Networks' DWDM solution delivers best-in-class performance, giving us the flexibility, high capacity and improved redundancy essential for our operational and commercial objectives," said Luiz Alonso, director, engineering and operations, Brasil Telecom GlobeNet. "Additionally, their ability to provide a turnkey solution and their commitment to deploy quickly suited our needs."

"We are actively working to expand and strengthen our solutions portfolio and value proposition for the U.S. markets. A reliable, high capacity network from a vendor who understands the importance of rapid deployment is the cornerstone of that commercial strategy," said Beatriz Pedrosa, director, marketing, Brasil Telecom GlobeNet. "We are confident that this first step puts us on a trajectory to exceed our commercial objectives including market expansion," added Pedrosa.

Nokia Siemens Networks has already begun deployment of the SURPASS hiT 7300 multi-haul DWDM solution for Brasil Telecom GlobeNet. When the first phase of the build-out is complete, South Florida will be linked to Brasil Telecom GlobeNet's extensive underwater fiber optic network, which currently connects the East Coast of the United States, Bermuda, Brazil and Venezuela. This will position Brasil Telecom GlobeNet to strengthen its presence in the North America market.

"With the SURPASS hiT 7300, Nokia Siemens Networks has extended its global leadership in next-generation long haul and ultra long haul optical networks to regional segments," said Sue Spradley, Head of North America, Nokia Siemens Networks. "We are delighted to expand our long relationship with Brasil Telecom GlobeNet into North America through the delivery of a scalable and cost-effective end-to-end solution."

Nokia Siemens Networks holds the number one global market position in DWDM and is a global market leader in leading-edge long haul and ultra long haul ROADM technology.
