Bradken, Inc. Secures Entire Cast Node Package for Transbay Transit Center Project


Kansas City, MO - On Monday May 20, 2013, the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) voted unanimously on a motion by Webcor/Obayashi Joint Venture, to select Bradken as the supplier for production of 304 steel castings made up of 75 unique geometries, totalling approximately 3.3 million pounds. These castings range in size from 3,600 lbs. to over 46,000 lbs. The contract will be manufactured and managed by the Company's U.S. based Industrial Products Business.



"The Transbay Transit Center Project is a visionary transportation and housing project that transforms downtown San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area's regional transportation system by creating a "Grand Central Station of the West" in the heart of a new transit-friendly neighborhood. The $4 billion project will replace the current Transbay Terminal at First and Mission streets in San Francisco with a modern regional transit hub connecting eight Bay Area counties and the State of California through 11 transit systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, SamTrans, WestCAT Lynx, Amtrak, Paratransit and future High Speed Rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim." This is recognition of Bradken's efforts to differentiate itself as a global, turnkey supplier of structural steel castings. In addition, Bradken possesses the resources to manage a wide range of major projects and ongoing structural casting production. "Our involvement with this project started in 2010. We extended every effort to support the design and contractual objectives sought by the TJPA and Webcor/Obayashi Joint Venture; as we bid for this project," says Wayne Braun, Bradken’s Industrial Products Business Development Director.
