Bourns' Innovative FLAT® Gas Discharge Tube Named as 2015 ECN Impact Award Finalist

Compared to conventional GDTs, Bourns® FLAT® technology reduces device size up to 75 percent while maintaining isolation and current-handling capabilities

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced that its FLAT® Gas Discharge Tube (GDT) technology has been named a finalist for a 2015 ECN IMPACT Award in the “passive components and discrete” category. Compared to a surface mount 8 mm Bourns® GDT, the new FLAT® GDT technology reduces height and overall volume by up to 75 percent while maintaining its isolation and current-handling capabilities. In its second year, the ECN IMPACT Awards competition has been created to honor the best and most innovative in the design engineering world.

“We believe that companies who are doing great work in the industry deserve to be rewarded for their successful efforts, whether they are implementing an educational program or designing a unique product,” said David Mantley, editorial director at ECN.

“Bourns is proud to be one of the finalists selected by ECN’s editorial team from an excellent field of leading innovative products nominations,” said Kurt Wattelet, product manager at Bourns, Inc. “Opening new doors for smaller, more portable designs, Bourns® FLAT® GDT features provide multiple benefits for today’s space-constrained, sensitive electronics equipment.”

Bourns® FLAT® GDT technology delivers a valuable compact, space-saving overvoltage solution featuring superior surge current ratings, low leakage and insertion loss with constant capacitance regardless of voltage. These innovative devices also offer a wide voltage range and voltage-limiting performance ideally suited to sensitive equipment with minimal impact on signal or system operation.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony held at the Las Vegas Mirage Hotel on May 13, 2015 in conjunction with the EDS trade show, a premier electronics distribution event put on by the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) and Electronics Representative Association International (ERA).
