Bosch System Produces First Single-Wrap Die-Fold Package with Hermetic Seals

o Utmost assurance of product quality and safety due to air tight seal

o Precise folds achieved for premium package look

o Machine designed for gentle product handling and heat minimization

Bosch Packaging Technology presents the new Starpac 600 HL wrapping machine at Interpack 2011 in Düsseldorf. The wrapping machine, launched by the Bosch company Sapal, closes packages with hermetic sealing allowing for maximum protection of products in single-wrap die-fold packages. Now chocolate manufacturers can differentiate their products with the premium look of die-fold packages while guaranteeing quality and safety. The Starpac 600 HL wraps small- to medium-sized chocolates with an output of up to 600 pieces per minute. "This is a real alternative to the flow-pack wrapping", states Alexander Schmitz, General Manager of Sapal, a Bosch Packaging Technology company. "With the Starpac 600 HL we can offer our customers the advantages of a truly optimal product presentation in combination with absolute safety of the product and high productivity."

The addition of heat-sealed and airtight hermetic seals to die-fold packages maintains product freshness for increased shelf life and protects the product against insects and moisture. It also strongly preserves original aromas and flavors while denying penetration by external scents, such as from nearby products on store shelves. Consumers receive a tamper-proof yet easy-open package due to the machine's automatic application of tear-tape to the packaging material. To maintain the elegant appearance of die-fold packages, the Starpac 600 HL uses a folding box to create all folds at once for perfectly symmetrical side and longitudinal seals. This symmetry is achieved by the folding box's ability to maintain the precise position of wrapping materials with elastic properties, which cannot be ensured with multi-station folding. Not only does this feature ensure aesthetically pleasing packages but also maintains high seal integrity and minimizes material consumption.

Several features of the Starpac 600 HL are designed to further product quality. The belt infeed system with precise product spacing minimizes scratching and breakage of products as the unwrapped products are only touched on their lower surface. The hot glue needed to secure the longitudinal seal lap is applied on the wrapping material even before the products are introduced into the folding section, so thermo-sensitive products are not exposed to heat. Two transfer revolvers move the products quickly through the folding and sealing process, allowing for speeds of up to 600 products per minute, while the use of polypropylene (OPP) wrapping material is guaranteed.

The modular Starpac 600 HL is equipped with transparent machine protections on front and backside serving for optimal operator visibility and process control. Infeed belts in cantilever execution result in maximum hygiene benefits as crumbs easily fall into a tray and do not remain on the belt. This design also allows for easy belt change to streamline maintenance.
