Bosch Rexroth Receives 'MI Earth Day Award'

(Rochester Hills, MI - www.boschrexroth-us.com) Bosch Rexroth, one of the world's leading specialists in drive and control technologies, received an MI Earth Day Award during the MI Earth Day Fest, an annual three-day event held April 22-24 in Rochester, Michigan. The event is Michigan's largest Earth Day gathering, with nearly 100,000 attendees anticipated.

The award was created to recognize a corporation operating in Michigan that is dedicated to clean technologies and practices through its products, community leadership, and innovative programs. Bosch Rexroth's Tech Center East facility is located in nearby Rochester Hills.

Nominated for local and global initiatives to help solve challenges in areas such as energy efficiency and renewable energies, Bosch Rexroth was honored for its industry-leading, fuel-efficient and vehicle emission-reducing technologies, such as hydraulic hybrid technology, along with its work in other areas such as solar energy, wind energy, and ocean energy development.

"It is an honor to be recognized for our leadership in developing sustainable solutions," says Berend Bracht, president and CEO of Bosch Rexroth in the Americas. "We're excited at continuing our commitment to advancing new technology for alternative energy vehicles, as well as other renewable energy fields. This award helps validate the hard work of everyone at Bosch Rexroth."

Among other initiatives, Rexroth's Technology Center East is deeply involved in producing hydraulic hybrid systems that are being tested to conserve energy and reduce the environmental impact of vehicles. The facility plays a major role in the company's vehicular hydraulic regenerative braking system (HRB).

The proprietary Rexroth HRB system uses hydraulics, connected to the driveline, to capture and store kinetic energy during vehicle braking. This energy would otherwise be lost as heat in the vehicle's friction brakes. During acceleration this stored energy assists the engine and reduces the fuel required to launch the vehicle. The overall process is called regenerative braking.
