Bosch Focuses on Functionality and Speed for Food and Pharmaceutical Needs

PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2015

New technologies for industry specific and high-output requirements

 • Focus on high production efficiency for dry and liquid foods

 • High-speed tablet press for increased output

 • Remote Service Portal: a connected industry solution for the packaging industry

Las Vegas, Nevada – At PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2015 and co-located Pharma Expo 2015, Bosch Packaging Technology, a leading supplier of complete solutions for processing and packaging, will present several technologies from its extensive portfolio catering to the needs of confectionery, liquid food, food and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Bosch will showcase new and existing technologies including a high-speed starch moulding plant for jelly candies, the latest addition to its newly acquired line of servo filling technologies, its latest vertical form, fill and seal (VFFS) and horizontal flow wrap (HFFS) technology and a new tablet press for increased output with a smaller footprint. All machines have been designed to increase line efficiency and maximize profitability while catering to individual industry needs. In addition, these new technologies will position manufacturers to meet evolving requirements and demands across a multitude of industry verticals.

“Changes in consumer demand continue to increase across multiple industries, from pharmaceuticals to food, dairy and confectionery. As a result, manufacturers are facing pressure to generate more products in either the same or shorter amount of time,” said Jonathon Titterton, director of sales and marketing, Bosch Packaging Technology. “We have developed new technologies and improved upon our existing machines to create solutions that provide higher outputs and maximized profitability while also ensuring that application-specific requirements are met. Whether your industry demands stringent hygienic standards or requires a high degree of flexibility to remain competitive in the market, our portfolio offers both standard and tailored solutions to meet your needs.”

High speed and precision for jelly candies

At PACK EXPO Las Vegas, Bosch will show its HLM 35 Jumbo Roto Step (RS) for high-speed starch moulding of gummy and fondant-based products. The HML 35 RS features a series of individual dual servo-electric drives, providing secure operation and optimization of all movements. Its flexibility is enhanced with the ability to produce jellies of different shapes, sizes and types including striped, side by side, double-layered and filled jellies, ensuring exact weight, shape and coloring. High output is achieved with a maximum input of up to 35 trays per minute with a tray width of approximately 1200 millimeters. The machine`s integrated Roto Step advancing system features individual tray movement rather than using chains for transport between stacker and feeder, reducing wear and enabling higher precision.

Optimized hygienic design and high volume output for liquid food packaging

From its most recently acquired company, Osgood Industries Inc., Bosch will display the 6400-S servo inline machine for filling liquid, viscous, and various other food types into pre-formed cups. The S-series features a solid, low profile and stainless steel weldment base designed to meet 3-A certification as well as clean and ultra-clean hygienic levels. The consolidated tank style pump features clean-in-place (CIP) capabilities due to the lack of piston O-rings which enhances the cleanability and reduces the risk of product contamination. Fully retractable pistons and nozzle stems allow CIP fluids to flow freely, efficiently cleaning all product contact surfaces. Servo-driven indexing and filling motion provide smooth and accurate filling with superior control of individual lanes, limiting product spillage. Downtime is reduced with the inclusion of slide out systems for easy refills of packaging material and sampling without stoppages, resulting in a high throughput of up to 60,000 cups per hour. The system also offers format flexibility and gives manufacturers the opportunity to expand their system, enabling them to adapt to changing market demands.

Redesigned bagger for increased efficiency

Building on its diverse portfolio and vast industry experience, Bosch offers a modernization kit for its SVB 3601 VFFS bagger for enhanced efficiency and high throughput of dry food products including snacks, cereals, coffee, grains, confectionery, as well as fresh and frozen products. The rebuilt bagger features upgraded Allen Bradley (AB) controls and a full mechanical rebuild to eliminate the risk of obsolescence. This provides manufacturers looking to purchase the SVB 3601 rebuild with a high-quality vertical bagger that includes up-to-date controls - and gives manufacturers who are currently equipped with the SVB 3601 the option of upgrading their existing equipment. Downtime is reduced with the updated control platform providing greater connectivity, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and the ability for remote service from Bosch experts. In addition, to completely eliminate downtime and production loss during machine upgrades and rebuilds, the Bosch facility in New Richmond, Wisconsin offers a swap machine, allowing manufacturers to maintain production during the upgrade or rebuild process.

Versatile pharmaceutical processing and packaging solutions

Bosch Packaging Technology also offers a large portfolio of machines and lines for pharmaceutical applications, such as the Manesty TPR tablet press range, which was developed to achieve high outputs. The tablet presses are equipped with a new die table, torque drive and tablet discharge chute, as well as Allen Bradley TPAC (Tablet Press Automation Controller) technology, which feature a configurable modular system with a robust design. Reduced maintenance and overall ease of use make the TPR series suitable for customers with flexible requirements. The TPR 500, which will be featured at PACK EXPO Las Vegas, can produce more than 400,000 tablets per hour using standard tooling on a small footprint. It is particularly suited for MUPS (multiple unit pellet system) products without any additional equipment.

New remote service solution

Bosch Packaging Services will also showcase its new Remote Service Portal, a connected industry solution designed especially for the packaging and processing industries. The portal provides a safe data connection between customer machines and Bosch experts to provide fast and efficient support all over the world. For instance, it is suited for machine set-ups, the preparation of field service visits, remote diagnostics, troubleshooting in case of machinery downtime or software updates. Bosch will also demonstrate its expertise for Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Using OEE as a key performance indicator, Bosch OEE helps customers maximize the profitability of their machines.

Advanced vertical and horizontal solutions

Visitors at the show will also have the chance to view new and existing solutions for vertical and horizontal packaging from Bosch. For manufacturers taking their first step in automation or looking for high-end solutions Bosch will display its Pack Series of horizontal flow wrappers, which range from entry-level models to fully automated technologies. Flexibility and gentle handling will be enhanced thanks to two new technologies: the Transver SDI product distribution system for a wide range of applications and the Sigpack Two- in-One biscuit packaging system for delicate handling of biscuits. Bosch will also display vertical solutions including the new SVE 2520 DZ vertical bagger providing high output for doy bags with zipper, the SVC 2620 with corner seal technology and the SVI 2600 with coffee aroma protection valve application.

Show attendees are invited to meet with Bosch experts at PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2015, Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, September 28 to September 30, Booth C-2800.
