Borosilicate Fiber Patch Cables suit photonics industry.

Press Release Summary:

Offered in diameters from 400 µm to 1 mm, borosilicate fiber bundles offer alternative to fused silica fibers for applications in visible and NIR wavelength range. Individual fiber diameters of 35-50 µm promote flexibility and tight radii bend, while large numerical aperture enables efficient light collection. Bundles can contain hundreds to thousands of single fibers, maximizing light collection and transmission as well as offering valuable redundancy in case of fiber breakage.

Gulf Photonics Adds Borosilicate Fiber Patch Cable Products

Oldsmar, Florida-Gulf Photonics announced its new line of borosilicate fiber patch cables for the Photonics industry.

Borosilicate fiber bundles can be an excellent alternative to fused silica fibers for applications in the visible and NIR wavelength range, at significantly lower cost. With individual fiber diameters of 35-50µm, borosilicate fiber offers increased flexibility and tighter bend radii can be achieved. Bundles can contain hundreds to thousands of single fibers, maximizing light collection and transmission, and offering valuable redundancy in case of fiber breakage.

Borosilicate fiber also boasts a larger numerical aperture, making it well-suited to spectroscopy and sensing applications requiring efficient light collection. Bundle geometries can be customized to the application, with each termination uniquely matching the object to which it is mated - a narrow slit, a round LED, or a series of legs routed to different sampling locations. Patterning and mapping of light between legs is an additional design option.

"We are very excited about this addition to the Photonics product line," said Patrick Bennetts, President of Gulf Fiberoptics. "Borosilicate fiber hasn't really been used for spectroscopy in the past, but it is clear that these fibers outperform silica fibers in certain applications," added Bennetts.

The new line of borosilicate fiber patch cables includes bundle diameters ranging from 400µm to 1mm in both standard and enhanced grade jacketing. Custom assemblies are also available with borosilicate fiber on quick turn.
