BorgWarner's Transfer Cases Provide Improved Traction, Vehicle Stability & Towing Performance

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Jan 11, 2010 - BorgWarner has been selected by Chrysler Group LLC to supply its patented Torque-On-Demand® (TOD®) and Part-Time transfer cases on all four-wheel drive Ram trucks. This includes all four-wheel drive RAM 1500 and 2500/3500 pickups. TOD® transfer cases will be a premium option for the Ram 1500 and will be the first transfer case model to launch. The company will also supply Electric shift Part-Time transfer cases for the Ram 1500 and Ram 2500/3500. BorgWarner's TOD® transfer cases provide traction on all surfaces, vehicle stability and towing performance, while BorgWarner's field-proven Part-Time transfer cases feature electro-mechanical synchronized shifts to ensure optimized timing for full engagement, preventing driver error and system damage.

"We are seeing rising interest among OEMs for our active, on-demand systems in the full-sized pickup segment," said John Sanderson, President and General Manager, BorgWarner Drivetrain Systems. "These active systems automatically switch the vehicle from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive and back with no driver intervention. BorgWarner is pleased to broaden its strategic partnership with Ram, providing advanced technologies engineered and made in America."

"The BorgWarner TOD® and Electric shift Part-Time transfer cases will be a great addition to the rock solid Ram powertrain lineup," said Mike Cairns, Vehicle Line Executive - Truck, Chrysler Group LLC. "We are very pleased to add the great reputation of BorgWarner's transfer cases to Ram Trucks."

In addition to transfer cases, the Ram vehicles also feature friction plates, one-way clutch assemblies and transmission solenoid control modules from BorgWarner Drivetrain Systems. Other BorgWarner product for the Ram pickup includes BorgWarner Morse TEC engine timing systems for 3.7-liter V6 and 4.7-liter V8 engines, BorgWarner Thermal Systems cooling fan assemblies for Ram pickups equipped with 5.7-liter Hemi V8 gasoline engines, and BorgWarner Turbo & Emissions Systems exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves for the Dual-mode Hybrid Ram.
