BMC Software Delivers Unified Business Process Integration

Award-Winning BMC CONTROL-M Enables Real-Time and Batch Integration Through Comprehensive Support for Messaging, Java Applications and Web Services

HOUSTON, Nov. 8 - BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE:BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today expanded its BMC(R) CONTROL-M batch management solution with the announcement of the new Business Process Integration Suite which includes support for message-oriented middleware, Java applications and Web services. This support, the first of its kind in the industry, enables customers to integrate real-time processes with batch processes from mainframe, distributed systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP), file transfers and homegrown applications into one unified, centrally-managed business process. This comprehensive business process integration support enables companies to streamline processes, both internally and with partners, while having a single point of control.

In addition, BMC Software is announcing BMC CONTROL-M/Forecast, a new forecasting engine for future business process flows. BMC CONTROL-M/Forecast allows for simulating and modeling future flows of jobs and business processes across the enterprise, thus allowing users to understand how changes to the flows will impact business services and the meeting of service level agreements.

CONTROL-M provides advanced scheduling capabilities across the enterprise. It integrates batch processes running on diverse systems into a unified, manageable business process and offers a focal point of management, enabling efficient problem detection and resolution. Its innovative architecture helps organizations meet business goals by addressing reliability, availability and scalability requirements. By adding support for message-oriented middleware, Java applications and Web services, CONTROL-M provides customers with a comprehensive solution for implementing new business process management capabilities rapidly, easily and with no coding. This support also enables customers to proactively manage these batch processes according to their importance to the business, thus helping them achieve Business Service Management (BSM).

Mike Erdlen, technical architect at SEI Investments, and BMC CONTROL-M customer said, "BMC Software's CONTROL-M will allow us to manage our batch environment based on business needs, not on technology limitations. Application integration via MQ and JMS messaging is an important part of our overall architecture and CONTROL-M for Messaging will allow us to seamlessly integrate batch scheduling into our core software platform and manage it as a unified business process. Furthermore, its open interfaces, ability to connect with heterogeneous components, and ease of installation are features that are attractive to SEI's future plans."

New Support Advances Business Process Integration
Java applications and Web services deployed in application server environments are an integral part of automated business processes, magnifying the need for integration with applications external to these environments and management in a batch context. To support this effort, BMC Software is delivering BMC CONTROL-M support for Java Applications and Web services. Interacting directly with J2EE-enabled application servers, BMC CONTROL-M can now invoke Web services and other types of Java entities, just like any other batch job. BMC CONTROL-M also allows customers to invoke and manage these applications as part of an enterprise business process. In many organizations business processes and IT processes are not aligned to the same goals. While business processes are typically aligned according to business units or departments, IT processes are often aligned according to the technology infrastructure. The new Business Process Integration Suite allows customers to manage business applications according to business requirements to ensure that service levels are met.

"The dynamic and fast-changing nature of IT and business has increased pressure on enterprises to be agile and responsive. Java applications, Web services and messaging oriented middleware are key technologies in enabling that agility," said Rich Ptak, industry analyst at Ptak, Noel & Associates. "With today's announcement, BMC Software continues to deliver the industry's most innovative solutions for batch management, and, more importantly, meet the needs of enterprises wrestling with business process integration within or outside their enterprise."

Message-oriented middleware is one of the most common technologies for enabling business and technology integration today. CONTROL-M support for Messaging allows companies to link messaging exposed applications into enterprise-wide business processes. This support enables true event-driven business processes by allowing applications in the enterprise to dynamically change the scheduling environment through messaging. With CONTROL-M, customers can invoke any application in the enterprise by putting a message in the application's queue and then monitor and manage the execution of the involved application from a central location.

"Many new production applications are developed in Java and are deployed in application server environments. Couple that with Web Services and virtual enterprises and customers need the ability to manage their environment in new ways," said Gur Steif, director, Operations Management at BMC Software. "These BMC CONTROL-M solutions give customers the ability to manage their IT infrastructure that is driven by the business rather than technology, business processes which span multiple applications and platforms and business processes that are affected by outside events including Web-based and B2B events. This allows customers to maximize resource utilization through dynamic scheduling and automated recovery."

BMC CONTROL-M supports BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy by providing an understanding of the relationship between real-time and batch processing environments and the ability to manage those environments to assure the on-time delivery of the business services they support. For example, with its new support for new business process integration technologies, BMC CONTROL-M can now associate message-oriented middleware, Java applications and Web services batch processes to critical business services to manage these processes from a business perspective and help ensure that any delay or error in execution is automatically detected and does not affect business services. In addition, CONTROL-M also delivers a superior management focal point by providing comprehensive administration, monitoring and management capabilities for batch business processes regardless of platform, technology or geographic location.
