Low-Heat Liquid Blackener
June 4, 2002. Springfield, MA. Heatbath Corp. has introduced a single-component blackening agent for stainless steels, (including martensitic, ferritic, austenitic and Duplex,) also cast and malleable irons. Called PX-5-L, this quick-acting blackener is a liquid version of Heatbath's time-proven PX-5 stainless blackener, and has an exceptionally low boiling temperature of 250 to 260°F.
Heatbath PX-5-L is typically operated in 7 stages: heated alkaline cleaner, cold water rinse, acid activation, cold water rinse, 10-15 minutes of immersion in the blackening bath, cold water rinse and oil. Expert assistance is offered to help maximize the output of your stainless blackening line, upon request.
PX-5-L meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-13924D for Class 4 black oxide coatings. Baths use standard mild steel tanks, heat exchangers and fixtures. Dragout is very low.
The product is easy to use and well-suited to automatic concentration control. Heatbath's concentration control system provides automatic replenishment of evaporative water and is virtually maintenance-free.
