BIG Kaiser Showcases the Newest in Precision Tooling at CMTS Booth #5223

Elk Grove Village, IL - BIG Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. will showcase a number of tooling product lines at the 2007 Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show. Visit BIG Kaiser at Booth #5223 to see what's new from Kaiser, BIG Daishowa, Speroni, Unilock, Sphinx and more.

BIG Kaiser's New EWB UP (Ultra Precision) Finish Boring Head is a revolutionary new series of Kaiser boring tools with the distinction of the finest adjusting resolution - .001mm steps of diameter corrections (.00005" on dia. for inch graduated heads). This innovation will allow users to easily make fine incremental adjustments where critical diameter tolerances are required - all without the use of a Vernier scale.

The EWB UP series' six boring heads allow users to bore a range of 20-100mm (.787"-3.94"). The flexibility of the Kaiser KA connection permits a wide range of spindle interface options. All bore ranges and tool lengths are identical to existing Kaiser tools. The integrated counterweight can be adjusted to any bore diameter by a separate scale to permit high speed operation.

Several new BIG-PLUS tool holders will be featured at CMTS, including BBT30 and BBT40 Shrink Fit Holders. These complement existing offerings of CAT40 and CAT50 Standard BIG-PLUS Shrink Fit Holders, and are available in both standard and extended length bodies. Metric sizes available include 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 16mm (20mm available for BBT40).

Shell Mill Adapters with BIG-PLUS BT30 shanks will also be on display. Standard OD pilot sizes include 3/4" and 1". This product complements existing offering of BT40, CAT40 and CAT50 Standard BIG-PLUS Shell Mill Adapters.

Another product at the show will be Side-lock End Mill Holders with BIG-PLUS BT30 shanks. Standard sizes include 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4". Metric sizes include 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm and 20mm. These complement existing offerings of BT40, CAT40 and CAT50 Standard and Metric BIG-PLUS End Mill Holders.

The popular new Air Power Spindle provides solutions to the endless challenges of micro machining with ultra high speed and precision, offering variable spindle speeds up to 80,000 RPM. Air Power Spindle is an air-driven tool that can be used on existing machining centers to provide dramatic enhancements to surface finish quality, extended tool life, and reduced wear on high speed spindles. Used as an additional spindle on a normal machining center, Air Power Spindle eliminates the need for an expensive, high-speed machine.

The product minimizes thermal displacement in the Z-axis for top precision. When compared with a standard machining center spindle with up to .012mm of displacement, Air Power Spindle remains constant at less than .001mm. The Micro Collet allows a clamping diameter of .018"-.159" and guaranteed runout of less than 1µm (.00004") at the nose.

BIG Kaiser will also showcase the new Rotary Indexer Adapter Kit, designed for use with the Unilock Clamping System. The 210mm adapter kit easily mounts to any rotary table with a t-slot faceplate. Once adapted, Unilock will increase productivity through drastic reductions in handling and setup times.

The Rotary Indexer Adapter Kit makes it quick and easy for operators to unlock the Unilock chuck and change setups or workpieces. The clamping system is designed to preserve a repeatable accuracy of .0002" (.005mm) or better with a retention force greater than 11,000 lbs.

Since it only takes a few seconds to open a Unilock chuck and swap out the workpiece or fixture, Unilock can increase the productivity of machine tools running rotary indexing tables while freeing up machine tool operators and setup personnel to perform other tasks.

BIG Kaiser's newest technology in tool presetting systems will also be on display. The new STP-35 Basic and STP-35 EzVision Systems match the superior accuracy and T.I.R. of the STP-34, with an extended z-axis height to accommodate tools up to 20" in length.

The system's thermo-balanced and artificially aged pearlitic cast iron structure ensures that the equipment is fully isostatic and will not deform or distort over time or temperature change-a fundamental requirement in providing long-term linear accuracy and repeatability.

The EzVision system's quick gage capability can measure any tool. It manages and displays tooling and cutting edges on the same monitor as the Speroni PC-based EzVision control. The system has display resolution of .001mm (.00004") for added precision and features one-micron Heidenhein glass scales.

The EzVision control features a centering indicator box that is ideal for presetting angular cuts, as in chamfering. It may also be used to calculate nose radii and angles. Episcopy, one of the STP-35's most popular options, provides an easy way to detect defects or deformities by illuminating and magnifying the cutting edge.
