Benchtop Analyzer determines package integrity.

Press Release Summary:

In one analysis, PAC CHECK® Model 840 lets packagers measure 2 critical variables - residual headspace oxygen (O2) and absolute package leak rate - that determine package shelf-life. Unit produces absolute leak number based on application of Poiseuille's law, which yields total hole diameter leak size based on measurements of pressure and flow. It saves up to 240 data points in internal memory and can also send information to computer via RS-232 data line.

Original Press Release:

Mocon Intros Bench-Top Analyzer which Measures Residual Headspace Oxygen, Determines Absolute Leak Rate

Minneapolis, MN (September 6, 2006) -A bench-top version of the first-ever unit to measure both residual headspace oxygen (O2) as well as absolute package leak rate is being introduced by MOCON, Inc. (NASDAQ: MOCO).

PAC CHECK® Model 840 Package Integrity Test System, follows on the heels of the hand-held PAC CHECK® Model 820 introduced last year. The bench-top model was engineered in response to customer requests for a more robust unit with a powerful pump for faster test results.

Along with the oxygen headspace reading, the bench-top PAC CHECK® Model 840 Package Integrity Test System calculates the real and accurate leak rate of a package. The system produces an absolute leak number based on the application of Poiseuille's law which yields a total "hole" diameter leak size based on measurements of pressure and flow.

The impact to packagers is that they will now be able to measure in one quick analysis, two critical variables which determine package shelf-life. From these readings, further analysis could be done to set statistical parameters for acceptable product.

The unit is the perfect compliment to the hand-held PAC CHECK® Model 820 which offers "portable" testing.

The PAC CHECK® Model 840 can save up to 240 data points in its internal memory. Information can also be sent to a computer via an RS-232 data line. (MOCON has developed a software package to retrieve the data.)

Ideal product applications are dry, solid or semi-solid products such as: snack foods, coffee, cheese, meat, cereal, etc.

Another feature is the PAC CHECK® Model 840's rugged construction. A large display screen features LCD-style graphics and is backlit for easy readability. A touch pad to the right of the display screen enables fast and efficient data input.
