SHANGHAI, China, Dec. 12 -- BEAWorld -- BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that it will deliver the industry's first open, enterprise-grade, software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform in Q2 2008. This platform will simplify the way enterprises and independent software vendors (ISVs) create dynamic business applications.

The new BEA platform will be the first deliverable of Project Genesis, a BEA initiative introduced in September 2007 to enable companies to transform and differentiate their businesses with next-generation dynamic business applications. Dynamic business applications conform to the way people work, adapting to business context, fostering collaboration and enabling knowledge workers to initiate change without the lengthy IT cycles required to update traditional packaged applications. The first phase of Project Genesis will remove key adoption inhibitors previously faced by ISVs developing dynamic business applications via a software-as-a-service model.

"Genesis is BEA's vision for a platform that radically simplifies the way enterprises and ISVs create, operate and govern dynamic business applications," said Alfred Chuang, chairman and chief executive officer, BEA Systems. "Genesis embraces and extends everything that BEA does -- from Tuxedo, to WebLogic, to AquaLogic."

With Genesis, ISVs will finally have an open, enterprise-class SaaS application platform that easily integrates with on-premise applications and existing architectures. Currently, an open, enterprise-class SaaS application platform does not exist to address these challenges.

"BEA's SaaS-enabled platform will help ISVs and business participants develop dynamic business applications with a simplified and unified environment," added Chuang.

The first phase of the Genesis platform will include the following capabilities for application innovation:

o A container for SaaS applications, deployable in virtualized environments

o Presentation services for user access and interaction

o Flexible metering capabilities to support end-user billing

o Fine-grained entitlements for multi-tenant security

o BEA WorkSpace 360(TM) , a unified and collaborative application lifecycle design, deployment and management environment engaging both business and IT.

"This is great news for current and prospective SaaS providers. BEA can change the game in the SaaS marketplace by enabling ISVs to leverage its expertise in delivering enterprise-class software infrastructure," said Sam Jankovich, president and chief executive officer of EnterConnect, Inc. "We are looking forward to utilizing Genesis in our global SaaS marketplace, SOAapps.com, which already leverages BEA technology to deliver a secure, multi-tenant environment for ISVs to host, market, sell and service SaaS solutions. We believe BEA will enable us to scale beyond anything available to the SaaS market today, including Open Source technology."

With Project Genesis, BEA will deliver a dynamic business application platform that converges service-oriented architecture (SOA), business process management, enterprise social computing and other technologies to transform software applications and how they are built. Project Genesis extends BEA's vision by enabling end-users to participate in the application lifecycle for dynamic business applications.
