Blue Bell, PA - November 14, 2002 - C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: CHP), Powercom Division, a leading North American producer and marketer of complete, integrated standby power systems, today announced the release of the Liberty Series 1000® FAM 12-100 front-access valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery. This addition to C&D Technologies' Powercom Division's product line combines the convenience of a front-access product with the performance and reliability necessary for the most
demanding standby applications.
As part of C&D Technologies' Powercom Division's front-access product line, the FAM 12-100 battery's front terminal is designed to simplify installation and reduce maintenance, saving customers both time and money. Engineered to be powerful, flexible, and reliable, the FAM 12-100 is constructed using proprietary low-calcium lead alloy, which extends battery life through low grid corrosion and low gassing. Additionally, C&D engineered this product to exceed safety standards for safe operation with a flame retardant Polypropylene jar and cover that meet UL94 VO to self extinguish and for elevated temperature installations in uncontrolled environments. The flame arresting one-way low-pressure release vents prevent flashback hazards from external sparks as well as extend battery life by preventing premature dry out.

The reliability and safety of the FAM 12-100 make it ideal for both controlled and uncontrolled environments including installations in customer premise equipment, central office, outside plant bulk power systems, personal communication service, and other wireless service standby power.
Accelerated life testing per Bellcore/Telcordia specification show greater than 10 years of service life can be expected. The product warranty is 10-years, four full years at 77°F (25°C) in float service with six years of additional coverage based on a pro-rata.
