BATS Wireless Announces High-Capacity, High-Speed Offshore Communications Network Project in the North Sea

INDIANAPOLIS - BATS Wireless (BATS), the world's leading innovator of wireless stabilization, optimization, and tracking systems together with Specialist Distributor Purdicom today announced a new offshore communications network project with one of Purdicom's Service Provider partners for a multinational oil company. The project calls for BATS to provide its state-of-the-art DVM-50 systems, which will facilitate critical communications capabilities and data sharing between the flotel and fixed offshore platform sites in the oil-rich North Sea.

The three DVM-50 antenna systems will be outfitted with Cambium PTP-600 radios; used to form a high-speed, high-capacity, resilient network that can deliver up to 300 Mbit/s connectivity speeds. The DVM-50 offers a low temperature-rated, marine-grade ruggedized architecture, boasting advanced sea salt and spray-resistant composite materials with dual-layer water protection. These design improvements allow for a system that can withstand one of the harshest cold-weather environments on earth in the North Sea. The network has been designed to provide at least 50 Mbps of data at 10 Km link distances over water, providing seamless communications between the flotel and the platform.

The marine-grade BATS DVM systems deliver a wealth of cutting-edge wireless communications and data opportunities to fixed and floating rig, platform, flotel, FSO and FPSO operators, enabling end users access to faster, more adaptive communications networks for both production and crew comfort. The DVM-50 features BATS' industry-leading connect and track technology, allowing for the dynamic connection and continual movement of high-throughput point-to-point (PTP) communications.

"The BATS system is truly unique and has enabled us to provide a solution to this complex communications requirement where no other provider could," said John Speakman, Solutions Sales Manager, Purdicom. "BATS support has, as ever, been fantastic throughout the design and testing process and we have developed a package that can now be replicated for any offshore production and construction facility."

"We are pleased to work with solutions partner Purdicom to develop a reliable, high-speed network that will deliver critical communications during offshore operations," says Phillip Cramer, V.P. Sales & Marketing, BATS Wireless. "The need for high-capacity communications capabilities offshore is important, as it not only increases production capabilities, but also dramatically improves efficiency, safety, and delivers a new array of crew comforts."
