BASF Wall Systems Introduces Enershield(TM) Air and Water-Resistive Barriers Liquid-Applied Coatings for Exterior Substrates

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Wall Systems business of BASF Corporation, a leader in the EIFS and stucco industry, announced the introduction of a new business venture focused on the important and growing market for air/water-resistive barriers. The new Enershield(TM) line of coatings and associated membranes are designed to meet the needs of architects, contractors and building owners, based on four key concepts:

Efficient use of premium materials. ENERSHIELD products are based on high-quality elastomeric polymers formulated to provide a balance of strength, resilience, abrasion-resistance, water-resistance and controlled water vapor permeability. These properties combine to create high performance at low film thicknesses. Where extra strength is needed, special SHEATHING FABRIC saturated with ENERSHIELD creates a fabric-reinforced composite material with self-gauging thickness and super toughness.

One air barrier material for all wall assemblies. ENERSHIELD products meet the requirements of ICC-ES AC212 for use as a water-resistive barrier behind all cladding materials, and are fully qualified with many popular water-drainage EIFS designs. Rough window openings can be effectively treated using the same ENERSHIELD reinforced with SHEATHING FABRIC. The result is a seamless, monolithic air/water-resistive barrier.

Safety and sustainability. ENERSHIELD products are high solids, water-based, single component materials with very low VOC content. As applied, they are non-flammable. Once cured, they have an ASTM E84 Class 1 flame spread rating.

Extensive testing to validate performance. ENERSHIELD products have been fully tested and meet all relevant International Code Council Acceptance Criteria, as well as Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) performance requirements.

BASF Wall Systems has established a dedicated sales and support team for the Enershield business. Enershield is now available and distribution is being established at waterproofing and building supply outlets throughout the United States. Complete technical literature can be accessed directly off the Enershield website - www.enershield.basf.com - or architects and contractors can request Enershield binders.
