BASF to Highlight Its Portfolio of Colorants and Additives for Plastics at SPE's CAD RETEC 2010 Conference

BASF scientists to present papers covering bio-based polymers and effect pigments for plastics, and introduce new effect pigment for plastics

FLORHAM PARK, NJ - BASF will feature its broad range of colorants and additives for plastics at the CAD RETEC 2010 Conference, hosted by the Society of Plastic Additives' Color & Appearance Division, Sept. 14-16, 2010, in Nashville, Tennessee.

At CAD RETEC 2010, BASF will showcase its additives and pigments that "Hit the Right Notes" - a bow to host city Nashville's role as the Home of Country Music. BASF's additives and pigments:
Create vibrant colors and eye-catching special effects;

Keep plastics cool even under intense sunlight;

Maintain color and physical properties longer in end use applications

BASF also offers a broad portfolio of products with FDA compliance for food contact applications.

In addition to having a booth at this event, BASF scientists will present several papers at this event:

Tuesday, Sept. 14 At 3:30 p.m., Tad Finnegan, Manager of the Plastic Additives Technical Center for North America, will review "Solutions for Bio-Based Polymers."
This paper will discuss the technical suitability of colorants for use in bio-based polymers, as well as review some considerations for compostability under ASTM D 6400 and EN 13432.

Wednesday, Sept. 15 At 2 p.m., Dr. Joseph Fay, Application Specialist for the Plastic Additives Technical Center, will review "Effect Pigment Processing Concerns," demonstrating how different extrusion processing conditions impact effect pigments and providing suggestions for maintaining the integrity of the effects.

At 5:10 p.m. in the New Technology Forum, Tad Finnegan will review the effect pigment product line for plastics in "Effect Pigments for Plastics."

The presentation will also introduce BASF's newest effect pigment, Royal Lumina Blue 9680H, a highly chromatic interference pigment.

"Color & Appearance RETEC is an excellent place to meet with formulators involved in the performance and aesthetics of plastics and to showcase the innovative solutions BASF offers for plastic applications," said Markus Kamieth, Senior Vice President, Performance Chemicals, for BASF in North America.
