BASF Solutions for Sustainable Construction

LONDON -

- Stand N250 at Ecobuild 2012

BASF, one of the leading providers of products, systems and solutions for sustainable construction, will be exhibiting at Ecobuild 2012. The BASF stand (N250) will feature projects in the UK which have been used to demonstrate how energy efficiency in buildings can be achieved through innovative, competent and reliable solutions.

These projects - The BASF House in Nottingham, The Victorian Terrace renovation at the BRE, the Jaguar Land Rover training academy in Warwick, Tata's Sustainable Building Envelope Centre on Deeside, and government offices in Whitehall - feature a range of BASF energy efficient products and solutions, including innovative insulation foams, admixtures for concrete, phase change materials and pigments for heat management.

Neopor® - graphite particles provide unique performance

The grey Neopor® (expandable polystyrene: EPS) was introduced into the construction market more than ten years ago. It gets its colour and unique performance by the addition of graphite particles. Neopor® offers an improved insulating performance. When installed as cavity wall insulation the beads demonstrate their superior insulating capacity in comparison to conventional white EPS and other insulants. Cavity wall insulation can reduce the amount of heat escaping from your home by up to 35 per cent. By using Neopor® 5200 bonded beads home owners can save 25 per cent of energy compared to other cavity wall insulants. In the UK, Neopor® 5200 is used by our customer Domestic and General Insulation LTD (DGI) as Thermobead Diamond.

BASF will also show the external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) with
Neopor® at Ecobuild 2012. ETICS provides extremely suitable and economic thermal insulation in new and old buildings. It protects the supporting internal leaf or the external wall from thermal stress and against weathering.

Inverted roof insulation with Styrodur®C

Styrodur® C (XPS: extruded polystyrene rigid foam) has been protecting homes against heat, cold and moisture for almost 50 years. At Ecobuild BASF will demonstrate how
Styrodur® C can be used for inverted roof insulation. An inverted roof is a flat-roof construction, in which the insulating material lies above the waterproofing, creating a layered structure that combines energy -efficient thermal insulation with long-term structural protection. This design is made possible because Styrodur® C absorbs hardly any water due to its closed-cell foam structure and the foam skin on both sides.

Insulation generally prolongs the service life of buildings, increases their value and improves the living climate.

Basotect®- jack of all trades

Thanks to its high sound-absorption capacity, low weight (9 g/l) and fire resistance, the versatile melamine resin foam Basotect® is used in the construction sector, as well as in industry, to improve the acoustics of rooms. Basotect® is an open-cell foam based on melamine resin with a unique product profile: Its basic material makes it flame-retardant, abrasive, and suitable for conditions of up to 240degree(s)C while retaining its properties over a wide temperature range. It can be used in applications that require heightened fire safety, such as in buildings, cars and trains. Because of its low thermal conductivity and the fact that it is fibre-free, Basotect can also be used in solar thermal systems and air-conditioning technology.

WALLTITE®- a Sustainable Refurbishment Solution

WALLTITE spray applied polyurethane foam insulation creates a seamless and joint free finish to provide the ultimate air tight insulation system. The spray foam's unique qualities allows the insulation to be applied with incomparable speed and versatility compared to other conventional forms of insulation. Since last year's Ecobuild, WALLTITE® has experienced notable successes within the refurbishment market as a problem solver for insulating older properties. The initial liquid state of the foam allows the product to seal every joint and the hard to reach areas. This unique benefit provides durable and optimum air tightness results that can meet and exceed the latest Building Regulations. WALLTITE® provides an efficient insulation that can also work particularly well for new build projects due to the spray foam's impressive U-value results and a thermal conductivity as low as 0.025W/mK. Coupled with the foam's innate versatility, WALLTITE® proves to be an extremely reliable and economic option for a wide range of specifications.

PCI Geofug® the joint that almost cleans itself

Thanks to its super-hydrophilic properties, the peciclean® effect minimises the cleaning work required and makes joints especially repellent to oil, grease and dirt. In contrast to the lotus effect, water is not repelled but forms an extremely thin film on the surface of the joint. Dirt cannot take hold. It is simply floated off the surface and can be removed easily. PCI Geofug® is suitable for a variety of interior applications on walls and floors. It can be used for joints up to 6 mm wide in all ceramic coverings, even in wet rooms. The joints even resist attack by acid based household cleaning agents. PCI Geofug® is the ideal solution for residential and commercial properties especially retail units, car showrooms, shopping centres, supermarkets, airport lounges and hotels.

MASTERTOP® 1300 Series - Performance flooring never looked so good!

Attractive, sound deadening and comfortable underfoot, the MASTERTOP® 1300 series of resin flooring systems is perfect for active environments, combining functionality and aesthetics in perfect balance. There's no compromise on durability, cleanability or chemical resistance and the design possibilities are endless, whether it's an office, a school or a leisure facility.

Micronal® PCM - phase change material

One product which attracted considerable interest at last year's Ecobuild was
Micronal® PCM, BASF's phase change material which provides intelligent temperature management for buildings. This year's stand will include examples of its use, including
ebb(TM) PCM Clay Board and Armstrong CoolZone lightweight thermal mass ceiling systems.

Coil Coating Topcoats:

PLASTICERAM®TOP - For the demanding environment

PLASTICERAM® TOP is a topcoat product based on plastisols. It is designed for outdoor use in demanding environments in the construction industry and stands out for excellent UV resistance and a high degree of corrosion protection. Thanks to coat thicknesses of 150 - 200 microm, PLASTICERAM® products are extremely resistant to weathering and aging. In particular the outstanding UV resistance convinces customers.

PLASTICERAM® products have been used for decades as a standard coating for steel wall and ceiling elements.

POLYCERAM® U - Superior flexibility and durability

POLYCERAM® U is a topcoat product based on polyurethanes for exterior use. It is designed as a high end solution for the construction industry. POLYCERAM® U is extremely resistant to weathering and aging and especially made for roofing and cladding application. POLYCERAM® U is a highly UV resistant topcoat with an excellent performance throughout product lifetime.
