Banedanmark Uses Noise Monitoring Terminals during High-speed Rail Project

DENMARK

As construction work on Banedanmark's (Rail Net Denmark) new tunnel begins, the company will monitor its noise levels closely to reduce the impact on local residents, using Noise Monitoring Terminals (NMT).

Six noise monitoring terminals, provided by sound and vibration specialist Bruel Kjaer, will be set up in key locations in the suburbs of Valby and Hvidovre, the two most populated areas along the new railway line - and the two areas most likely to suffer from noise pollution.

As permitted noise levels are determined by the city council, Noise Sentinel, makes it easy for Banedanmark to monitor its levels, act accordingly and meet these standards.

The New Line Copenhagen-Ringsted Construction Manager, Jette Aagaard said: "The noise emanating from the construction site needs to be monitored continuously. That service is provided for us by Bruel Kjaer. We cannot remove the noise pollution completely, but we can certainly provide information, explain and do our utmost to keep it within the set limitations."

With the Noise Sentinel Stakeholder web accessible via "The New Line Copenhagen-Ringsted" website, Banedanmark can share the real-time measurement data with local residents, and then post activities and noise reducing initiatives. The real time noise monitoring can be followed on: http://kobenhavn-ringsted.bdk.noisesentinel.com/

Due to open in autumn 2018, the 60 km double-track electric railway, between Copenhagen and Ringsted, will be Denmark's first railway for high-speed trains and enable passenger trains to achieve speeds of up to 250 km/h.

More information about the new railway line is available on "The New Line Copenhagen-Ringsted" website: http://uk.bane.dk/visBanearbejde_eng.asp?artikelID=15469
