Florence, KY, (June, 2006): Balluff, a leading provider of sensor-based productivity and parts quality error-proofing solutions for the machine tool industry, will be displaying ways of increasing parts quality and system productivity using sensors at Booth number D-4337 at IMTS. Using sensors in creative and innovative ways is fast becoming one of the principle ways leading companies can reach higher levels of product quality and productivity. Balluff considers itself a part of the American machine tool industry and as such, is one of the few sensor producers exhibiting at the show. Many of Balluff's new products being displayed will be included in working demos that demonstrate their error proofing productivity in action.
BWL L-Shaped Thru-Beam Sensors
Balluff has recently added to its unique line of versatile L-shaped BWL thru-beam sensors. These sensors are a breakthrough design that can replace many less versatile and comparatively hard to use standard designs. Balluff now offers three heavy-duty BWL model sizes and five new standard duty BWL model sizes. The heavy-duty models feature a rugged corrosion resistant steel housing that can resist multiple impacts without loss of function. These sensors also feature a high- powered infrared light source that will cut through heavy contamination. This combination makes these sensors ideal for harsh-duty applications. The new standard duty BWL sensor series features an anodized aluminum housing with a selection of visible red light or Class II laser. Visible red emission models feature detection resolution down to 0.5 mm, while the Class II laser versions boast resolution down to 0.1 mm throughout their beam. The laser versions are ideal for detection of extremely small parts.
Balluff will also be displaying its expanded line of RFID systems including a new inexpensive line that provides fast, economical on-the-fly industrial data tracking. The BIS M system is specifically designed for continuously moving applications requiring large amounts of industrial data carriers, and operates at an industry-standard 13.56 MHz frequency. To provide greater flexibility and keep cost to a minimum, the BIS M system uses four types of economical data carriers that handle a wide range of logistics and automation data tracking applications involving pallets, totes, or containers.
BIW linear transducer
Balluff's patented new Micropulse(TM) BIW transducer is a first in linear positioning technology, offering superior non-contact positioning accuracy in a form factor matching a linear pot, with a price that's comparable. The Micropulse BIW uses all-new, patented, pulsed-inductive technology to provide superior performance and reliability with a non-contact design that allows drop-in-fit replacement for pots. The BIW's wear-free, non-contact design completely eliminates performance degradation over time, the principal cause of downtime and loss of accuracy in pots. The new design is ideal for any application where old-style linear pots are used, such as plastic injection molding machines, blow molding machines, stamping presses, woodworking machinery, and hydraulic motion bases - anywhere linear motion must be monitored and/or controlled.
Often, standard size sensors are too big for many close-in applications where there is no room to mount them safely. On the other hand smaller sensors don't necessarily solve the problem because they often don't have the range of larger sensors. This problem is solved by Balluff's new line of long range 4 mm and 5 mm unshielded sensors. These new sensors set a new world standard in sensing distance for their size - out to 5mm - the equivalent range of an M18 sensor three to four times larger. As extensions of a line that includes a 3mm sensor with unmatched 3mm range, these new sensors give users the ability to use significantly smaller diameter sensors that require less space but do not sacrifice sensing range. This translates into a greater degree of functional reserve and greater reliability. Principal applications center on small part detection where a high level of miniaturization is required for tight, difficult-to-install situations, such as robotic tooling and automated assembly systems for the semiconductor, medical and electronic industries.
