New Advance "Quick-Start(TM)" Ballasts Meet Demand for Shorter Lamp Ignition Time

Advance Transformer Co., Rosemont, Illinois, has announced the introduction of new "Quik-Start" Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) ballasts, specially designed for applications requiring faster lamp ignition time. The new Quik-Start models will ignite CFLs in less than 1.0 second, compared to the 1.25 to 1.50 second starting provided by standard programmed-start CFL ballasts. Models are currently available for the operation of 13W Triple, 26W Quad or Triple, and 32W Triple CFLs.

Quik-Start ballasts are ideal for applications such as hotel bathrooms and foyers, and offices. Advance notes that Quik-Start ballasts are not recommended for frequent switching applications or for use with occupancy sensors. For these applications, standard CFL ballasts with programmed-start ignition will provide optimal lamp life.

Quik-Start ballasts feature IntelliVolt® technology, allowing 120-277V, 50/60Hz operation and helping ensure shipment of the correct ballast or fixture for a given application. The ballasts' Centium® technology enables them to meet the most stringent power quality requirements with Total Harmonic Distortion less than 10% and Power Factor greater than 98%. Quik-Start ballasts also feature the SmartMate® color-coded, poke-in connectors to ensure wiring accuracy while minimizing fixture assembly and ballast installation time. The ballasts also feature Advance's SuperCool operation for superior thermal protection and extended ballast life. Low-profile, lightweight enclosures provide maximum fixture design flexibility while facilitating shipping, handling and installaltion.

Quik-Start models carry the same catalog numbers as their standard programmed-start counterparts, with the addition of a "QS" suffix. Currently available Quik-Start models are catalog number ICF-2S13-HI-LD-QS (for operation of one or two 13W Quad lamps, ANSI designation CFQ13W/G24q) and ICF-2S26-H1-LD-QS (for operation of one or two 26W Quad or Triple lamps, ANSI designations CFQ26W/G24q or CFM26W/GX24q; will also operate one 32W Triple lamp, ANSI designation CFM32W/GX24q). Quik-Start models are also available for Class B EMI applications in 120V versions only-substitute "RCF" prefix. These Class B models comply with the FCC consumer limits and are ideal for residential applications. The "RCF" models also meet all ballast requirements of the Energy Star Residential Lighting Fixture Program. All above models including "LD" suffix feature length mounting feet and dual-entry connectors.
