Ball Screws are offered in 11 sizes.

Press Release Summary:

Engineered for smooth, quiet motion at high speeds, Quiet Ball Screws minimize noise because nut uses end cap ball returns machined from plastic. Offered in 6 diameters from 5-20 mm and pitches from 2-32 mm, products are available with or without backlash and in choice of 2 accuracy grades: T5 ground thread and T7 rolled thread. Steinmeyer Combination Wiper system, consisting of labyrinth seals and felt wipers, protects against contamination.

Original Press Release:

8 New Sizes Available for Quiet Ball Screws

Bedford, MA, May 6, 2003 -- Steinmeyer, Inc. has expanded its Quiet Ball Screw product line by introducing eight (8) new sizes. With diameters ranging from 5 to 20 millimeters, they provide greater flexibility in applying precision ball screws that have been specifically engineered for smooth super-quiet motion, even at high speeds. Ball screw noise is virtually eliminated because instead of metal tubes the nut uses end cap ball returns machined from rugged plastic. When the Series 24xx Quiet Ball Screw was first introduced in 2002, three sizes were offered: 12 x 10, 16 x 10 and 16 x 30 (diameter x pitch). Eight new sizes have now been added:

5 x 2 (5 mm diameter with 2 mm pitch)
8 x 2
10 x 4
12 x 5
16 x 16
16 x 20
16 x 32
20 x 10

Quiet Ball Screws are available with or without backlash, and in a choice of two accuracy grades - T5 (ground thread, series 2426) and T7 (rolled thread, series 2446). Combination wipers are standard. And, several sizes are compatible with the latest DIN 69051 ball screw standard.

For pitches greater than 5 millimeters, the Series 24xx ball screw utilizes a dual start thread profile that provides substantially higher load carrying capacity compared to single start screws. Because the nominal diameters are relatively small, this screw exhibits low inertia, a distinct advantage in high-speed applications. And, by eliminating external return tubes, the nut body is considerably smaller which is especially beneficial when designing compact stage assemblies. To protect against contamination, the ball nut is fitted with the exclusive Steinmeyer Combination Wiper system consisting of labyrinth seals and felt wipers. The felt, saturated with oil or liquid grease, enables long - term lubrication as well as superior wiping action. Should the application require high vacuum compatibility, the Series 24xx ball screw can be assembled using end caps manufactured from Teflon(TM), as an option. In fact, the end caps can be produced in virtually any material that can be machined, enabling operation at extreme temperatures.

Applications for the new Series 24xx Quiet Ball Screw include semiconductor production machines, inspection equipment, medical devices, pick and place machines, robotic mechanisms and automation equipment.
