SKF® Self-Aligning Ball Bearings Offer Solutions in Case of Misalignment

SKF® self-aligning ball bearings provide solutions for machinery and equipment applications where misalignment may occur due to mounting errors or shaft deflection. Compared with conventional bearings offering self-aligning capabilities, these types further promote low friction, high speed, and low noise performance.

Their ability to self-align enables increased operational life, lower friction and temperature, less wear and less noise during operation, and reduced stress on bearing cages and lubricants. These ball bearings can perform ideally in high-speed applications requiring optimum running accuracy. Examples include fans, blowers, and conveyor equipment, among others.

SKF self-aligning ball bearings allow for angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing without adversely affecting operation. They gain their self-aligning capability from a unique design incorporating two rows of balls with a common sphere raceway in the outer ring.

Basic types include open designs and sealed versions featuring contact seals on both sides. The steel-reinforced rubber seals protect against contaminants during handling and operation. Sealed bearings are supplied as standard with a long-life lithium base grease suitable for operating temperatures ranging from -22ºF to 230ºF (-30ºC to 110ºC). Under most application operating conditions, they are low-maintenance requiring no relubrication.

SKF self-aligning ball bearings are available with cylindrical or tapered bores. Bore diameters range in size from 5mm to 130mm. Users also have choices in cage materials and bearings designed with extended inner rings and special bore tolerances for easy mounting and dismounting. Custom designs can be developed to satisfy particular application requirements.
