Balcony Washer outputs up to 36,000 pieces per hour.

Press Release Summary:

Designed for high-speed washing of ampoules, vials, and syringes, Type 308 allows operator to maintain visual contact with process, while separation of cleaning and maintenance areas optimizes machine access. Washer presents adjustable rows of 10 lines or more, which transport components, submersing them in sonic bath for predefined set time. For frictionless, free-floating balcony transport, washer employs 3-point, 316L SS grippers.

BASE EUROPE GmbH, the German Manufacturing Plant of the Bausch Advanced Technology Group (BAT), Introduces New Type 308 Balcony Washer

February 19, 2009 - Bausch Advanced Technology Group (BAT), a leading supplier of pharmaceutical packaging equipment worldwide, introduces the new Type 308 Balcony Washer from BASE EUROPE GmbH, its German manufacturer. Designed for high speed washing of ampoules, vials and syringes, the Type 308 features an innovative balcony design. This balcony design allows the operator to maintain visual contact with the process while the separation of the cleaning and the maintenance areas improves machine access for enhanced performance and faster changeovers.

Compared to conventional rotary-type machines and other traditional vial washing systems that require a "walk around" to maintain visual access to the processes, the Type 308 Balcony Washer allows a stationary operator to easily see both the transport and cleaning processes. This improved visibility enables the process to be better monitored to assure optimal performance.

The Type 308 Balcony Washer presents adjustable rows of 10 lines or more, which efficiently transport ampoules, vials and syringes, submersing them in a sonic bath. Unlike other systems that pick containers from the bath randomly, the Type 308 washer submerses containers for a predefined, set time with its pre-sorted, inline configuration. By controlling the duration of the bath, the Type 308 guarantees that no vials stay in the ultrasonic bath too long and are subjected to high particulate concentrations.

Instead of cup-like pockets used in other vial washers, the Type 308 washer employs 316L stainless steel grippers for frictionless, free-floating balcony transport. The 3 point-gripper design reduces the contact area between the grippers and the containers' exterior surface by 80 percent, which allows more of the surface to be exposed to cleaning, including the critical container opening.

The intermittent motion Type 308 features servo motors positioned along the line that guarantee the alignment of the containers with the filling needles/nozzles, which move up and down to efficiently clean the inside of the containers. This specialized needle/nozzle operation reduces noise as well as energy consumption by 25 percent.

Cleaning stations can be equipped for inside and outside cleaning with different medias as well as inner and outer blowing and/or a siliconizing station.

Depending on the container size, the Type 308 Balcony Washer can reach an output of up to 36,000 pieces per hour.
