Original Press Release:
Arkeia Launches Smart Backup Solution with Innovative Volume-Based Pricing Technology
Small, Midsize Businesses Regain Control of Storage Costs and Pay Only for Actual Use
CARLSBAD, Calif.--Oct. 18, 2005--Arkeia Corp. announced today the introduction of Arkeia Smart Backup, a powerful new network backup solution that provides small and midsize businesses with an innovative technology to help control their storage budget: integrated data volume base pricing.
Arkeia Smart Backup allows companies to pay only for what they actually use, yet still enjoy the speed and reliability of Arkeia's powerful backup and restore engine. The new software covers a wide spectrum of data protection strategies, fully supporting disk-to-disk backup environments as well as traditional disk-to-tape and tape autoloaders.
Arkeia Smart Backup also features:
-- Network backup capability with client support for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, NetWare and xBSD to protect complex heterogeneous environments
-- Easy-to-use Java-based graphical user interface that means a short and painless learning curve
-- Simultaneous (parallel) backup of several machines to leverage Arkeia's multi-flow technology for reduced backup windows
-- Automatic bare metal Disaster Recovery ensures rapid recovery and business continuity
-- Support of hot database and application backup plug-ins to ensure that running application data is protected
"Arkeia Smart Backup volume-based pricing gets rid of headaches related to pricing based on the number or type of servers," said Eric Kappes, manager, information systems at Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati. "There are no more hassles when I add new machines to the network, replace a server with an OS change, or consolidate and re-deploy servers. Best of all, I only pay for what I use. This pricing structure is a much more reasonable approach than that used by most software vendors."
Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, commented: "Arkeia's new licensing technology helps solve the significant pain of managing IT storage infrastructure costs. The extremely low entry price point and the easy way to expand data volume makes this is an excellent option for small and midsize companies who need fast and reliable network backup."
Arkeia Smart Backup is based on Arkeia's award-winning network backup technology and replaces the company's free backup software, Arkeia Light. Moving from Arkeia Light to Arkeia Smart Backup is easy, and Arkeia Smart Backup is free up to 50GB of protected data. Additionally, upgrades from Arkeia Server Backup to Arkeia Smart Backup will be seamless and free.
"Arkeia Smart Backup furthers our commitment to offering fair pricing for a powerful, easy-to-use network solution," said Phil Roussel, Arkeia CEO. "The favorable response to our new pricing model from customers and OEM partners confirms that Arkeia is, once again, providing solid answers for IT needs."
Pricing and Availability
Arkeia Smart Backup data volume-based pricing begins at 100GB for $99 and is free up to 50GB. Each additional 100GB (up to 1TB) is priced at only $99.
