Backplane provides differential pair architecture.

Press Release Summary:

VHDM-HSD(TM) 5-row backplane supplies up to 5.0 Gbps bandwidth per signal pair. Ground planes between signal columns provide tightly controlled impedance for rise times down to 50 psec, ensuring low cross talk between signals within and between columns. It connects main backplane to accessory daughtercards in high speed, short rise time, high circuit count environments such as routers, switches, servers, storage equipment, transmission equipment, and digital cross connects.

VHDM-HSD 5-Row Backplane from Molex Delivers High-Density, High-Speed Performance for Differential Pair Architecture

Achieve up to 5.0 Gbps bandwidth per signal pair with the new VHDM-HSD* 5-row module-to-backplane connector system from Molex Incorporated. This product line is ideal for connecting the main backplane to accessory daughtercards in very high speed, short rise-time, high circuit count environments. These are ideal for applications in the telecommunications, computer and instrumentation industries that include routers, switches, servers, storage equipment, transmission equipment and digital cross connects.

VHDM-HSD systems provide enhanced electrical performance for differential signaling. These advantages include reduced in-pair skew, reduced cross talk and easier trace routing. Ground planes between signal columns provide tightly controlled impedance for rise times down to 50 picoseconds (10 - 90%), ensuring very low cross talk between signals within and between columns.

The daughtercard connector consists of a metal stiffener, as in the VHDM** system, combining the signal wafers, power modules and guidance modules into one continuous connector that can be ordered as a single specific part number. These 2.00mm by 2.25mm pitch connectors have real signal density of 10 differential pairs and added flexibility of 15.00mm (.591") minimum distance between daughtercards.

Molex has licensed the VHDM-HSD technology from Teradyne, Inc. With both Molex and Teradyne manufacturing identical connector systems, customers have two reliable supply sources. Molex and Teradyne have co-developed a website designed to help customers select VHDM-HSD products. The web address is VHDM-HSD.com.

Pricing for the VHDM-HSD line depends on quantity, circuit size and design. For example, when purchased in quantities of 1,000, a typical 100-circuit VHDM-HSD connector would cost $18.50 each. Lead time is typically six weeks.

Molex Incorporated is a 64-year-old global manufacturer of electronic, electrical and fiber optic interconnection systems. Based in Lisle, Illinois, USA, the company operates 54 manufacturing facilities in 19 countries. The Molex Website address is www.molex.com.
