Backplane Connector System achieves data rates up to 6.25 Gbps.

Press Release Summary:

VHDM® H-Series is designed for applications that require very high interconnect density and high-speed signal integrity. Signal portion consists of modules in increments of 10 columns by 25 columns in either 6 or 8 rows, while daughtercard connector consists of metal stiffener that combines signal wafers, power modules, and guidance modules to make one continuous connector. Power contacts handle 10.0 A of current per blade, delivering up to 120 A per 0.984 in. of board edge.

New Molex VHDM® H-Series Backplane Connector System Achieves Data Rates Up to 6.25 Gbps

VHDM H-Series reduces crosstalk by 50 percent and improves PCB routing, ideal for telecom and datacom system upgrades without costly architecture redesigns

LISLE, Ill. - Molex Incorporated has announced the release of the VHDM® H-Series (Very High Density Metric® H-Series) backplane connector system, which is designed for applications that require very high interconnect density and high-speed signal integrity. With the highest data rates of all VHDM versions, the VHDM H-Series enables an installed base to perform at 6.25 Gbps.

"The VHDM H-Series brings to market exceptional data rates and signal integrity, securing the use of VHDM as the platform for the next generation of products. The speed, backward compatibility and modular construction allow engineers to adapt quickly to changing design requirements for future system upgrades without costly architecture redesigns," cites Richard Bahou, global product manager, Molex.

The Molex VHDM H-Series improves PCB routing and back drilling, while minimizing impedance discontinuities and reducing peak cross-talk by up to 50 percent. This new version allows for faster data rates using the same footprint as the standard line, making the VHDM H-Series an ideal solution for telecommunications, hubs, switches, routers, cellular infrastructure and multi-platform (DSL, Cable Data) systems, test and measurement equipment, medical imaging, military applications and data networking storage and servers.

The signal portion of the VHDM H-Series connector system consists of modules in increments of 10 columns by 25 columns in either 6 or 8 rows. The daughtercard connector consists of a metal stiffener that combines signal wafers, power modules and guidance modules to make one continuous connector that can be ordered with a single custom part number. The maximum length of a single stiffener is 300mm (~12"). The power contacts can handle 10.0 A of current per blade, efficiently delivering up to 120.0 A per 25.00 mm (0.984") of board edge with multiple mating levels for hot pluggable applications. Metal guide pins and key slots provide excellent guidance for large PCBs and eliminate the possibility of plugging a daughter card into the wrong slot.

The VHDM H-Series is fully scalable, with an identical mating interface and envelope to the VHDM L-Series (1 Gbps), VHDM (3.125 Gbps) and VHDM-HSD(TM) (5 Gbps). For more information on the Molex VHDM H-Series, please visit: www.molex.com/link/vhdm.html.
