BAAM Continues to Receive Accolades

Cincinnati Incorporated accepts Manny award for biggest breakthrough with Big Area Additive Manufacturing machine.

Cincinnati Incorporated’s (CI) Big Area Additive Machine (BAAM) received the “Biggest Breakthrough of the Year” award from the 2016 Manny Awards, sponsored by Cincinnati Magazine. The Manny Awards, now in their 10th year, are committed to recognizing the greatest accomplishments of the Tristate’s (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky) manufacturing industry, and honoring local companies for their excellence in innovation and best practices.

BAAM is an industrial sized, additive machine with a proven design and technology from CI’s laser platform. The machine was developed as part of a cooperative research and development agreement between CI and the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and introduces significant new manufacturing capabilities to a wide range of industries.  Its open architecture allows the 3-D printing of large parts quickly, and its ability to use commodity thermoplastic materials means that the cost per part will be reasonable and allow for more options.

“BAAM is revolutionizing the methods and speed of prototyping, as well as the way tooling and production parts are made,” said Carey Chen, president CEO of CI. “Aerospace and automotive markets have already been infused with additive technology and the marine market is another prime candidate to benefit from its streamlining effects. Each new market is a catalyst for the usage of new and different materials. CI is leading the way in the large scale and high speed additive manufacturing arena.”

The Manny Awards will be held June 15, 2016 at the Horseshoe Casino and will recognize five categories of local manufacturing excellence: Best Place to Work, New Job Creation, New Product Development/Innovation, Top Growth and Biggest Breakthrough. The Manny’s have identified over one hundred high profile industry changing technologies over the last ten years, including L’Oreal USA, Mazak, Intelligrated, Miller Coors Brewery, Emerson Industrial Automation, and Gold Medal Products Co.
