B&R Cable Redundancy


Cable redundancy is often a requirement in process automation. This type of cabling is also a topic in system manufacturing. Long cabling distances play a large role in both application fields. Cable feedback is generally problematic when closing a ring. Topology freedoms that can offer unlimited tree structures with double cabling in POWERLINK are much more important. When using a device with link selector function, data is always transferred via the highest quality network lines.

Compact Link Selector

The Compact Link Selector was developed for connecting POWERLINK controlled nodes. The device structure follows the proven X20 philosophy. The 62.5 mm wide module is operated as stand-alone unit. That makes it possible to operate as many POWERLINK devices as needed on one network with cable redundancy.

Bus controller with integrated link selector

The link selector function is integrated in the X20 bus controller BC8884 for connecting an X20 System.

Integrated hubs

Expanding this device with two active X20HB2885 hub modules eliminates the need to wire external hubs. Two hot-swap-capable modules are required so that I/Os can continue operation uninterrupted even when a hub is replaced. Additionally, a redundant supply voltage for the system can be easily implemented using two X20 supply modules.
