Axial Leaded Anti-Surge Resistors come in range of sizes.

Press Release Summary:

Based on power metal film technology, RoHS-compliant ASR and SPR series provide alternative to carbon composition and ceramic composition resistors for pulse power withstanding with low inductance in all types of power supply applications. ASR series includes 1 W, mini ½ W, mini ¼ W, and ¼ W body sizes. Capable of withstanding surges to 10 KV, SPR series - offered in 1 W and mini ½ W sizes - offers max working voltage of 2,000 V and max overload voltage of 3,000 V.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Announces the Expansion of the ASR Series Axial Leaded Anti-Surge Resistors

Improvements offer more options for the power electronics design engineer...

RALEIGH, NC (July 23, 2007) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announces a significant expansion to their ASR and SPR series of axial leaded anti-surge resistors. The ASR series adds a ¼ watt body size to the current sizes of 1 watt, mini ½ watt, and mini ¼ watt sizes. The SPR series has significantly improved the maximum working voltage up to 2000 volts, the max. overload voltage up to 3000 volts, and the surge withstanding voltage up to 10KV. These improvements enhance the usability of these series over a more broad range of application needs.

The ASR and SPR series are a power metal film technology and are really the same part. The SPR series is only for the 1 watt and mini ½ watt sizes and strictly the values from 1 Meg ohms to 12 Meg ohms that are UL 1676 recognized. The ASR series is available in resistance values down to 100 ohms and up to 33 Meg ohms and can withstand surges from 1 KV up to 10 KV depending on size and resistance value. Because of the high costs involved with UL qualification, the rest of the series has yet to be added to the UL file. Together they offer an excellent alternative for carbon composition and ceramic composition resistors for pulse power withstanding with low inductance. In fact, side by side testing shows the ASR/SPR series is superior to carbon comps for high voltage surges.

These two series are an ideal choice for all types of power supply applications. They are designed to meet the harsh pulse requirements found on the input and output stages of switching power supplies. They offer a lower cost alternative to many other types of resistors used for this same purpose, including carbon composition and ceramic composition.

The ASR and SPR series are both RoHS compliant and offer standard bulk and ammo packaging in 500 pcs to 5000 pcs increments depending on size. Pricing is size and value dependent, but ranges from $36 per thousand to $90 per thousand for minimum quantities. Standard lead-time for this product is stock to 8 weeks.
