AVX Extends Multilayor Varistor Rating to 50VAC

MLV features extended working voltages in a reduced case size...

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (October 24, 2006) - AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components, has extended the working voltage range of its popular Transguard line of multilayer varistors to 50VAC (65VDC), while minimizing board space consumption by utilizing a 1206 case size. Designated the VC Series, the expanded working voltage makes the MLV ideal for over voltage protection for applications such as industrial controllers, automation, fire systems, HVAC and heating and air conditioning controls.

According to Brian Ward, AVX Worldwide Business Manager of Circuit Protection Devices, the MLV is available with working voltages in increments of 5VAC, starting at 25VAC. "The voltage increments of 5VAC have allowed us to fill in the gaps previously encountered when using 1206 case size transient voltage suppression devices. This makes AVX's range of 1206 case size multilayer varistors one of the most inclusive on the market," said Ward.

Energy ratings are from 0.6 to 1.1 joules and peak current ratings are 100 to 200 Amps.
