Avery Dennison Medical Solutions Previews Metria(TM) Wearable Sensor Technology

New Platform Enables Comfortable and Secure Physiological Monitoring for Consumer and Clinical Applications

CHICAGO - Design engineers and marketing executives in the commercial and clinical medical device sectors can preview the development of a new low-cost, patch-based wearable sensor technology platform from Avery Dennison Medical Solutions, a business of Avery Dennison Corporation (NYSE: AVY), at MEDICA 2011. The Avery Dennison® Metria(TM) wearable sensor technology* platform will provide comfortable, secure and low-profile physiological monitoring for a variety of consumer or clinical applications.

The platform is featured in the Avery Dennison Medical Solutions exhibit at MEDICA in Hall 6, booth H07 and at the Wearable Technology Show within MEDICA in Hall 15, booth C04.

"Business partners who work with us to bring Metria technology to market will come from a broad range of consumer and clinical areas-from sports, fitness and gaming to cardiac, elder and home health care monitoring," says Deepak Prakash, global market segment manager, Avery Dennison Medical Solutions.

The Metria technology platform will be based on Avery Dennison Medical Solutions advanced adhesives, materials and manufacturing processes in combination with a personal monitoring device for continuous physiologic monitoring developed by Proteus Biomedical, Inc. It will incorporate multiple sensors including ECG and an accelerometer that will allow measurement of heart rate, activity, sleep and other physiologic metrics.

Prakash notes that the overall technology will facilitate low-cost production of wearable sensors and will deliver user comfort and convenience. "The Metria platform will enable production of comfortable and low-profile wearable sensor patches that can contribute to users' quality of life and can also help lower health care costs," he says. "The patch will feature a skin-friendly adhesive that can accommodate day-to-day activity, such as exercising or taking a shower."
