Autonomous Scanner facilitates mobile network optimization.

Press Release Summary:

Integrating processor and operating without external PC, R&S TSMA provides high-speed collection of data in all available mobile networks and is operated via SwissQual QualiPoc Android smartphone/tablet. While recording data collected by scanner, QualiPoc Android simultaneously carries out voice and data tests, and displays captured values from scanner in real-time. With 350 MHz to 4.4 GHz measurement bandwidth, scanner covers all bands specified for wireless communications technologies.

Original Press Release:

Extremely Compact, Autonomous Scanner from Rohde & Schwarz Simplifies Mobile Network Optimization

The new R&S TSMA mobile network scanner from Rohde & Schwarz can execute drive tests without an external PC. The compact 1200-gram scanner makes it easier to collect in-the-field measurement data required for mobile network optimization. It supports all current and future wireless standards in all bands and achieves very high measurement rates.

Munich — Rohde & Schwarz introduces its new autonomous mobile network scanner at Mobile World Congress 2015. Unlike previous scanner models, the R&S TSMA features an integrated high power processor and does not require an external PC. This makes it extremely compact, lightweight and independent. The scanner can be installed in a vehicle in order to verify radio channel quality under field conditions. The R&S TMSA can easily be carried and operated from a backpack for network measurements in buildings with high data traffic density. Indoor tests are gaining in importance due to the intensive use of data services.

The R&S TSMA provides precise, high speed collection of important data in all available mobile networks and is operated via a SwissQual QualiPoc Android smartphone or tablet. This configuration is best suited for indoor and walk tests. While recording the data collected by the scanner, QualiPoc Android simultaneously carries out voice and data tests. It displays captured measurement values from the scanner in real time. Coupled with the R&S TSMA, QualiPoc Android delivers all required measurement data. It offers easy operation for precise and efficient implementation of complicated tasks such as network optimization in multistorey buildings.

As an alternative to operating the scanner via smartphone or tablet, any drive test software such as R&S ROMES or SwissQual Diversity Optimizer can be installed on the R&S TSMA and controlled via tablet. Test mobile phones for voice and data tests can be connected via USB at any time. This makes the R&S TSMA a compact, portable measuring system offering the functionality of a fully PC based software solution that also delivers high data rates. The optional R&S TSMA-K31 LTE downlink allocation analyzer allows, in a single location, parallel subscriber density measurements in multiple LTE networks operated by various providers.

With a measurement bandwidth from 350 MHz to 4.4 GHz, the R&S TSMA covers all bands specified for wireless communications technologies. The scanner can even be used in bands waiting to be standardized or allocated, providing excellent investment protection. It also supports frequency bands outside allocated standards, allowing it to monitor A&D activities, for example. The R&S TSMA is even compatible with TETRA - an appealing feature for security organizations and government authorities.

The R&S TSMA can be optionally equipped with a battery pack for even more flexibility. The two easily accessible rechargeable batteries are hot-swappable, i.e. changing batteries does not interrupt the task at hand. A backpack system offers enough room for the scanner, battery pack, a mobile phone and accessories.

The R&S TSMA can be conveniently configured and operated via a web interface, allowing users, for example, to install new software options and modify settings. Rohde & Schwarz provides downloadable software updates online, ensuring that the R&S TSMA always supports the latest features without requiring time consuming hardware swaps.

The R&S TSMA autonomous mobile network scanner is now available from Rohde & Schwarz. The company demonstrates its solution at MWC 2015 (booth B50, hall 6) under the motto "The Edge of Mobile Network Testing". For more information visit www.rohde-schwarz.com/ad/press/tsma.
