Original Press Release:

-IndraMotion for Packaging - Rexroth's Latest Automation System Provides Maximum Flexibility

IndraMotion is available in three versions - Basic, Enhanced and Advanced

Rexroth IndraMotion for Packaging, the new Motion Logic control system for food processing and packaging applications, offers real-time motion control combined with an IEC 61131-3 compliant PLC, plus application-specific technology functions and PLCopen motion function blocks, scaled across three hardware platforms to provide the right cost and performance for your application.

IndraMotion for Packaging is available in three versions - Basic, Enhanced and Advanced - to meet the specific requirements of your packaging application.

Basic - drive-based systems for ultra-compact solutions
Based on Rexroth's new drive-based Motion Logic platform, IndraMotion MLD, this system enables space-saving solutions with up to 6 axes - perfect for applications such as carton erecting and labeling. The core hardware component of this solution is Rexroth's highly-scalable digital drive system, IndraDrive. A Rexroth HMI can be connected directly to the drive via serial, Ethernet or Fieldbus for a complete system solution. The multi-axis version utilizes the SERCOS III interface over standard Ethernet cabling to enable drive-level programming, diagnostics and troubleshooting over Ethernet.

Enhanced - controller-based systems for high-value solutions
This high-value solution is based on Rexroth's new controller-based Motion Logic platform, IndraMotion MLC, to provide real-time motion control for up to 16 axes for applications such as cartoners and form, fill and seal machines. Up to 64 controllers can be networked together via cross-communication to provide precise synchronization of an entire line or process. The core hardware component of this system is Rexroth's IndraControl L40, a compact, DIN-rail-mount controller that combines the advantages of embedded PC architecture with highly-scalable I/O systems. In addition to 16 fast inputs and outputs, the controller base module offers standardized communication interfaces such as Ethernet, PROFIBUS (master/slave), RS232 and SERCOS. The controller base modules can be expanded with additional communication interfaces or technology modules for maximum flexibility.

Advanced - controller- or PC-based systems for high-performance solutions
Based on Rexroth's high-performance Motion Logic platform, VisualMotion, this controller- or PC-based solution is capable of handling up to 40 axes per controller and high-level functionality including Electronic Line Shafting (ELS) synchronization and coordinated motion - for applications such as palletizers, top loaders and horizontal form, fill and seal machines. This system also features the ability to perform on-the-fly synchronization and on-the-fly changes between different products and materials on the machine. The core hardware component of this system is the high-performance Rexroth PPC controller. Up to 32 controllers can be linked together to provide highly-synchronized motion control for up to 1,280 axes. This solution features 32 channel, high-speed Programmable Limit Switch (PLS) capability with an update time of 250µs and lead/lag compensation for variable machine speed, for the dispensing of complex glue patterns. Additional features include 100 Mbps Ethernet onboard, removable CompactFlash(TM) memory and 16 Mbps SERCOS support. An OPC server offers the ability to easily interface with Rexroth HMIs or any third-party HMI. All the major fieldbuses are available in either master or slave configurations. IndraMotion for Packaging Advanced follows the OMAC for packaging guidelines for SERCOS and Profibus interoperability in addition to PackML state model implementation.

Regardless of your requirements, IndraMotion for Packaging offers efficient, well-engineered architectures across drive-, controller- and PC-based platforms. IndraMotion for Packaging provides off-line simulation and on-line tools such as Monitoring, Debugging and Forcing for programming. More tools, including the integrated cam editor, CamBuilder, and predictive maintenance routines further supplement the engineering suite in the IndraMotion for Packaging system.

IndraMotion for Packaging is just one element in Rexroth's GenNext(TM) technology offering which combines Bosch Rexroth Electronic, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Linear Motion components to make packaging machinery more reliable, more productive, easier to use, easier to connect and more cost effective to operate.
