Opto 22 Announces ioProject 6

Company's Newest Automation and Data Acquisition Software Suite Offers PID Control Plus Subroutines and Other Enhancements

Temecula, CA - October 5, 2004 - Opto 22, a manufacturer and developer of hardware and software for industrial automation, remote monitoring, enterprise data acquisition, and machine-to-machine applications, has announced the release of ioProject(tm) 6, an integrated set of software applications and utilities for developing control programs, operator interfaces, and data acquisition systems for Opto 22 SNAP Ethernet-based I/O and control systems.

ioProject 6 is a Microsoft Windows-based suite of interoperable applications, programming tools, and diagnostic utilities designed specifically for Opto 22 hardware systems. The complete set of ioProject tools includes ioControl(tm), a flowchart-based programming application that lets users develop control and data acquisition applications, then download, run, and debug them in real-time. Also included in the ioProject suite is ioDisplay(tm), a human-machine interface (HMI) application for developing operator interfaces for Microsoft Windows-based clients communicating with SNAP Ethernet controllers; ioManager(tm), used for configuring, diagnosing, and managing SNAP Ethernet systems; and OptoOPCServer(tm), an OLE for Process Control (OPC) 2.0 compliant server which provides standard integration for data exchange between SNAP I/O and control systems, and any OPC-aware software client.

The tight integration of ioProject 6 and Opto 22 SNAP Ethernet systems dramatically shortens programming time, streamlines configuration, and reduces troubleshooting steps when deploying new systems.

The major enhancement to this new version of ioProject is the ability to create subroutines within ioControl. Subroutines simplify control program development by archiving a repeated process or task so it can be referenced from multiple places in the same strategy or from multiple strategies. Subroutines are also much faster at executing program code. Additionally, ioProject 6 users have the ability to create breakpoints in subroutines for easier debugging and can even program subroutines to call other subroutines during execution.

ioProject 6 also boasts a number of other improvements such as an increase in the amount of battery-backed RAM available to store persistent variables, variables initialized on download, the autorun flag, and strategy archives.

Other ioProject 6 enhancements include smaller inspect dialog boxes for easier navigation while in ioControl's debug mode; larger recipe files for complex batch processes within ioDisplay; and the addition of hotkeys to the Digital Point Inspect dialog box for easier reconfiguration of I/O points within ioManager.

The announcement of the Opto 22's new ioProject 6 software suite has been very well received, as many Opto 22 customers are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to utilize the software's newest features and are enthused about the many improvements in deployment and usability.

"Working with Opto 22's ioProject 6 development team gave us access to a beta version of the software well before the official announcement of the product, states Don Adams of VaCom Technologies, a provider of cooling, heating and refrigeration solutions to commercial and industrial markets. "We have been continuously impressed with the relentless drive demonstrated by Opto 22 in improving all ioProject software components and, where appropriate, incorporating product enhancements. In particular, the new subroutine feature will significantly simplify code creation while improving clarity."

Opto 22's ioProject 6 software suite is available as a free upgrade for previous licensed users of ioProject, ioControl, or ioDisplay. For new users, the complete ioProject 6 suite is priced at $499 USD for download, or $549 USD on CD-ROM with documentation. Additionally, the individual ioProject 6 components are available as follows.

o ioControl - Free for download from the Opto 22 Web site and also free with purchase of SNAP Ethernet-based controllers.

o ioDisplay - Available for download at a cost of $99 USD. Also available on CD-ROM with documentation for $129 USD.

o ioManager - Free for download and also free with purchase of SNAP Ethernet systems.

o OptoOPC Server - Available for download at a cost of $399 USD. Also available on CD-ROM with documentation for $429 USD.
