Automation Apps for Solid Edge Improve Manufacturers' Productivity

BELLINGHAM, WA - EDA, Inc., a firm specializing in the development of custom software for manufacturing companies, and one of the newest members of the Siemens Solution Partner Program, has released two new automation programs for Solid Edge® software, the mainstream 2D/3D computer-aided design (CAD) solution from Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division. Siemens PLM Software launched the Solid Edge app ecosystem in June, allowing independent software developers like EDA to present solutions directly to Solid Edge users.
EDA has already succeeded in helping to further enhance productivity for Solid Edge users with one of its new apps.
"We were approached about writing automation software for Solid Edge by a manufacturer in Missouri," said Madison Miner, lead software engineer on the project. "They had highly skilled engineers spending valuable time performing these repetitive tasks, and they thought there must be a better way."
Working with the company's engineering staff, Miner designed an automated program called "Revision Maker" that greatly sped up their processes. Revision Maker significantly accelerates the process of renaming or copying complex Solid Edge assemblies or drawings and updating links. The company installed a copy of the program on each engineer's computer, and now reports hours in time savings.
EDA realized that this program could serve as a stepping stone into more powerful automation software for use in connection with Solid Edge, and soon announced a new product, Revision Maker Premium, which allowed users to easily configure and create new assembly variations of their products.
"Using Revision Maker to modify model variables in-line is very powerful for our processes," said Nathaniel Golden, engineer at Schaefer's Electrical enclosures. "I'm sure [Revision Maker] will further enhance our productivity with wide acceptance from all engineers."
