Q-1000 Automatic Stretch Wrap System Features New Touchscreen PLC with Pre-programmed Wrap Patterns and Wider Capabilities

Free PLC Programming Software Gives Users Freedom to Edit or change PLC Setup

November 2004 - Lantech introduces a new touchscreen PLC control at Pack Expo for its Q-1000 Conveyorized Automatic Stretch Wrap System, providing pre-programmed wrap patterns and easy programmability. The new control allows a wide range of basic program modifications in "config" mode, without use of a supplemental PC; while free PLC programming software from Lantech allows full access to the control's code for in-depth changes. The machine demonstrated at the show will also highlight Lantech's new Pallet-Grip system that locks the load to the pallet, as well as a new non-contact film-tail sealer that conforms to the shape of the load and never needs cleaning.

"This control gives the customer consistent, precise wrap patterns with selection from the touchscreen," says William Caudill, Lantech Product Manager for Automatic Systems. "The five pre-programmed patterns can be edited without using a laptop PC, and when in-depth edits are needed, the free PLC programming software saves the user thousands of dollars. The control's fault tracking capability lets the user see operational trends as they develop. And in an automated environment, the control can also switch between wrap patterns as it receives information from upstream equipment."

The Q-1000 is a turntable stretch wrap system with five feet of infeed and exit conveyor to maintain a smooth flow of pallets through the machine, and smooth flow of forktruck traffic around the machine. Capable of wrapping 45-60 loads per hour, the machine can handle pallet weights up to 4000 pounds. The Power Roller-Stretch film delivery system provides 200% stretch standard, with 100-300% available. Wrap force is electronically controlled. Film loading from the side of the machine gives the operator safe, unobstructed access, without leaning, reaching or standing on the turntable. The non-contact film cutting system uses a safely guarded impulse-heated wire that can be temperature adjusted for film thickness and ambient conditions. The non-contact system eliminates film build-up on the wire to ensure a clean, consistent cut.

A wide range of ergonomic and safety features on the Q-1000 ensure operator protection and ease of use. The counterweighted roll carriage reduces the "felt" weight of the carriage to less than half of the real weight and eliminates the potential for crushing. The E-Z Thread® roll carriage allows quick loading without threading. Turntable guarding and photocells protect the operator and shut down the machine completely if a beam is broken during a cycle.
